Actually, I will disagree with you here. USSR government were inclined to spend more on the "soviet block" countries than on its own people. So, it did help Eastern European countries. Of course, the harm from not allowing a free economy had far outweighed the help it brought. I am not sure if you are from former USSR, but in the USSR in late 70s - early 80s it was a big deal to be able to go "abroad" in Eastern Europe and be able to buy something there that was simply not available in USSR. If you are from outside of Moscow region, you should remember the grocery stores stocked only by cans of seaweed and birch juice, and a ration of 200g of butter, and 1 kg of meat products per person per month.
The didn't "spend", it was more of a barter economy on a large scale- for example industrial machinery from Poland to the Soviet Union paid in fertilizer. The whole block was aways short of currency to conduct transactions and the lack of it became one of the major reasons for its downfall.

His other alternative is to show-trial all his generals and firing squad them. That provides scapegoats and gets his own ass off the hot-seat.

Then he can nominate some sad sap to "lead the invincible Russian army to victory" and kill that asshole too after a couple of months when nothing works out.

End result. Other people are blamed and killed. Putin is just fine. All is good.

Will Russia draft women into the Red Army like they did in WWII?
They're not going to draft anyone, Darts.

That shit leads to the sort of bad stuff that happened in 1905 and 1917 when riots happened in Moscow and St P and then possibly some very important people get bad outcomes. Why have that shit when you can just blame and execute your generals??

This is a must-see. The Russian TC blows straight up out of the hatch about 100 feet in the air and comes right down and smashes into - and through - a roof.
those autoloaders seemed like such a good idea at the time lol

It was the act of supreme stupidity to attack the country of Ukraine's size with 5 divisions when they needed 3x that. That's the problem with dictators surrendering themselves with yes men and loyal incompetents.
A bit like that act of supreme stupidity in the states on Jan 6.

Yeah Russians always believed their own shit didn’t stink. And tankies are happy to run the same idiotic narrative.

It’s not for you to say, Ivan, what kind of an amazing big brother you are. Nobody wants your stinking friendship or brotherly love
Yup Russians and Yankies are pretty much the same.

Not to mention that Putin is likely running low on generals, like tanks, artillery, shells and soldiers.

It will be a suicide move for Putin to have any draft. When it comes to a personal safety for the majority of population who did not want to think about politics or the war - they will start thinking about it.

Fair to ask how many of those happy Russians are simply scared shitless of putting a foot wrong.
Going back to Gorbachev: he was very popular during the first few years, but he was not ready to make big changes and people wanted them. With Yeltsin: he was very popular in the first few years, but the economic collapse (most people, myself included, literally lived on pasta and margarine) made people angry. So, when Putin offers them some food in exchange for freedom, the hungry people gave up freedom. I think, U.S. and Europe lost their chance to make Russia an ally in early 1990s when they treated it as a losing party in a cold war instead of a friend in need. And even now, U.S. and Europe worries too much about itself, otherwise they would be able to find a way to kill Putin: after all, he is not as hard to find as Bin Laden

And I'm sure you can post the 'later' report and show where those claims are supported.
Actually there was a thread on it not that long ago. About the same time as it was the headline of discussion on cnn and cp24. Here is a link to press release.
But there is no point in bothering for me or any of the Russians on here to waste our time in those pointless arguments. It was on the news, you simply dismissed it and quickly forgot(it’s not convenient for anybody politically)
It’s so much easier to listen to Zelensky and go to terb and hysterically discuss all those “rapes” and “concentration camps” and other so called Facts from Ukrainian twitter.
Just like it is so much easier to justify, defend, find smart ass explanation to what Ukis were doing to Russian population in Donbas since 2014
And that specific report was so all over the news and Ukraine slandered the Un and Amnesty international and off course there was the big political drama all over the news. https://toronto.citynews.ca/2022/08/06/ukraine-amnesty-intl-report-sparks-furor-resignation/amp/
Simply amazing how all of the Ukraine conflict “knowledgeable” folks on here didn’t notice and now laughing like I’m imagining something…
