One key difference: the way USSR "colonised" the Eastern Europe included large military presence and direct use of military force to prevent any changes (e.g., Prague 1968). And all Eastern Europe countries now are happy to stay away from Russia as far as possible regardless of how much money Russia is willing to give them.
You are quite right about that, and it is sad, since they were looked after much better, than how the US corps treated the south america, and American colonialisam was mostly done through subversive activities( e.g. Prague 1986)

USSR helped Eastern Europen countries and the quality of life there was better than in the USSR. U.S. helped South American countries, but the quality of life there was worse than in the U.S., however, still better in Eastern European country. The question is: Do you want to have the best house in the ghetto or the worst in nice suburbs? Do you want to have high quality of life (but worse than your neighbors) or low (but better than your neighbors)?

Nobody in Central Europe asked to be looked after by the Russians and between 1944 and the death of Stalin, Russians have committed more crimes in the occupied territories than Americans across the world up to the 2nd Gulf War. And by no means the crimes stopped with the death of Stalin, they just became more "private" . The horrendous crimes committed under the umbrella of the Soviet Block is main the reason why the Central and Eastern European countries want NOTHING to do with Russia and are all too eager to do everything in their power to aid Ukraine and keep Russians as far away as possible.

The quality of life was better than in the Soviet Union, but nothing to write mama about, but it certainly wasn't because Soviets "helped " them. That's just old Soviet propaganda.

Yeah Russians always believed their own shit didn’t stink. And tankies are happy to run the same idiotic narrative.

It’s not for you to say, Ivan, what kind of an amazing big brother you are. Nobody wants your stinking friendship or brotherly love

Actually, I will disagree with you here. USSR government were inclined to spend more on the "soviet block" countries than on its own people. So, it did help Eastern European countries. Of course, the harm from not allowing a free economy had far outweighed the help it brought. I am not sure if you are from former USSR, but in the USSR in late 70s - early 80s it was a big deal to be able to go "abroad" in Eastern Europe and be able to buy something there that was simply not available in USSR. If you are from outside of Moscow region, you should remember the grocery stores stocked only by cans of seaweed and birch juice, and a ration of 200g of butter, and 1 kg of meat products per person per month.

Hey, easy brother. Do not mixed Russians and Putinists. Half of Ukrainian citizens are at least quarter-part Russians, yet, they are not the same Russians as the ones living under the Putin propaganda now. Or should we hate most of the Germans now because majority of them supported Hitler. Sincerely yours, Ivan.

Thread about the dangers of war crimes given the Russian retreat.

Which Russian bot farm is pushing that discussion?

It's a reasonable question but not one that was featuring prominently during the Russian advance. We also have plenty of evidence of Russian war crimes but I would like to see some evidence before accusing the Ukr forces of abusing civilians.

Fair to ask how many of those happy Russians are simply scared shitless of putting a foot wrong.
They're scared; but they're also well conditioned.
