Believe it or not a placeholder team has won the draft lottery. That means the 8 teams that get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs will each get a 12.5 % chance of winning the first pick.
Loved the outcome! I'm just glad lottery darlings like NJ and Buffalo didn't get no. 1.

Anyway, this certainly created some buzz and a cool twist. Some teams like Buffalo are just fucking inept (picking top 8 for the 7th straight year) and don't deserve to be rewarded for losing.

Here is the actual draw. Placeholder E or team E wins. Yes, team E as Edmonton. LOL! What if Edmonton wins again that would be a real farce.

back to the hub cities...
The league’s do-or-die date on naming the hub cities was over a week ago.

So this is the-week-after-the-do-or-die week.

And next week will be the-week-post-the-week-after-the-do-or-die-week.

So does it actually matter where the hub cities are?
Or is this still 24 hour sports networks needing something to talk about?

Has Vegas laid odds on whether the players and owners will reach a return-to-play agreement before mid-September?
Is the over/under after the Labour Day weekend?
Or is that just the do-or-die-date?

it won't matter if they can't agree on a CBA
One of the proposed amendments in the new CBA - if it ever gets ratified - takes direct aim at Dubas and the way he's been structuring his contracts in player negotiations.
No contract going forward would look as enriched as the ones Mitch Marner and John Tavares signed, in terms of getting so much money up front in a long term deal.

Agree. The cap hit should be the actual cash payout each year and not just the average over the term.

I don’t think that’s what they’re planning to address and as far as I know the AAV isn’t changing, Darts.

The new clause goes after the mega-signing bonuses, which were weaponized into a competitive negotiating tool by Dubas.
Three athletes received $30 million each over the first two years of their contracts as signing bonuses, and of course it drops off from there.

The clause would stipulate that contracts of 6 years and longer can’t have more than a 35% variance between the highest and lowest years.

That wouldn’t have an impact on the averaged cap hit though.

I think the ceiling and floor (no more than 35%) helps but I still like the cap hit to track the actual cash payout each year.

Trying to stay in a Happy Place
This has got failure written all over it. Why bother at this juncture...
I imagine this is just the beginning of these types of reports as more players report to the training camps. I wonder what the guidelines are in the return to play protocols as to what levels of positive tests are required before the playoffs are cancelled. At some point the integrity of the game gets called into question - not to mention the safety of the players and off ice personnel.

Two Montreal Canadians aren’t even reporting to camp next week, including Max Domi who’s got type 1 diabetes and would be at higher risk.
A smattering of other players around the league saying no.
