This is the part about Ford. Always says he's standing up for the taxpayers but now he promises we'll have to pay a fortune. What an arrogant hypocrite.
A democratically elected mayor being pressured to surrender the mandate empowered on him?

Not requesting a judicial review?

Ford is mortally wounded just won't lie down and die. Won't be long now. Acting like a wounded bear in the woods.

Video update.

The second video in the hands of the police is confirmed to not be the same as the crack smoking video.
Nordheimer also wrote that he wanted to “dispel some confusion” over the videos. “Crown Counsel said the two videos were part of each other, in the sense that one was a subset of the other. From what I was shown, that is not correct.

“The video that I viewed is approximately 90 seconds long. It is the one in which the Mayor of the City of Toronto is featured. The second video is much shorter and is separate and apart from that first video.

“However, from the content of that second video, it might reasonably be concluded that what is revealed in the second video relates back to the first video,” Nordheimer wrote in the ruling.

I wasn't thinking of the present players. This was a hypothetical. There is already an unofficial NDP and Conservative presence. Make it offical with full parliamentary rules and its my opinion the partisanship quota would rise.[some spellings corrected]
And the 41-2 vote of non-confidence would then be sending Mr. Democracy to the polls for a mandate, not to the Courts where he threatens to go, instead. Just a few weeks ago he was all hot to have a by-election to replace Doug Holyday, and earlier when the judge punished him for acting in conflict with the City's interest and removed him from office he was demanding a by-election for Mayor so 'democracy would correct the judge'. He's singing a different tune now.

Frankly a contrite resignation speech when the story broke would have avoided all the crap, stupidity and lies we've seen since, and been a respectable campaign opener for a cleaned-up Rob. But only the willfully blind could still believe the Rob that's been on display since Gawker has any idea of what cleaning up means. If he makes good his threat to run, we'll get a sense of how many such mentally challenged folk are in Toronto.

He might be playing off the board. He is only mortally wounded if you think the game is about being mayor of Toronto.

If his goal is to become a tabloid celebrity, he is in scoring position.

I guess we're still waiting for grog's underage BJ video that only he seems to know about.

Doug Ford put forth a motion to call an election. It was voted down. So there goes that point.

I don't know that council has the legal power to do that, unless Ford resigns. If he resigns they can either appoint the deputy mayor to fill in until the next scheduled election, or call a by election for the mayor's seat.

If he is serious about that request, he should resign. At least it would then be clearly within council's power.

What he really should do is go check himself into rehab for several months, next election is not until in October, he has a few months to get cleaned up properly and convincingly and still have time to come back and campaign. Of course he still refuses to admit he has a problem, despite how obvious it is to everyone else.

The motion was to request the province allow for an election. You are correct they can't call for one directly.
Agree he needs to get help. And all the rest. I was just making sure the record is straight that they are prepared to go to the polls.

After all the lying and obfuscating, hardly any wonder. Rob used to have some cred. and some friends on Council, but everyone of them has gone on record telling him to step down or aside and get help, and only his brother voted with him against the various motions Friday.

Why would anyone listen to an election proposal now? Rob's moment for that was when the Gawker story—whose truth he always knew—first broke. But true to past form he chose to lie and cling to power and privilege over the people and their interests.

If Rob had said, "Geez, I fucked up with drugs, I let you all down. I apologize and I resign. I will get help, and I will return to serve you even better", then Council could have declared a by-election, and he could have proven he was indeed the people's choice, and worthy to be Mayor. Back when he had credibility, enough Council votes for an election could likely have been scrounged up.

Council couldn't and can't throw him out, but only Rob's own demons kept the lies coming. And the biggest lie is that he believes in democracy and just wants to go to the polls.

Now he plays the victim card for all it's worth, and with no job to do—not that he ever did much of a job—he has all the time he wants to campaign on the taxpayers' dime.

Yup. I agree with you. Just clarifying your previous point that they wouldn't go. They will.
