I really don't understand what has people's panties in a bunch about the changes (I'm looking at you, Nathan!). The new Rouge rule makes 1000x more sense than the old rule. Can you imagine if the Grey Cup was ever decided by someone missing a field goal? I could have done without shortening the field, but that's not a hill worth dying on. Not to mention that the shorter field makes expanding into the US easier. And more scoring is always a good thing.

The core differences between the CFL and NFL remain.
- 3 downs
- Canadian players
- Much wider field and much bigger endzone (even if the endzone was reduced)

I don't see the reduction of the field from 110 yards to 100 yards as major. Some elements of the rouge were due for a change,

The one major change in my view is the goalposts moving back. That will change a lot of strategy, but should allow for before offence in the red zone as well.

I'm not a hardcore CFL fans, But I know many hardcore fans of the CFL, or really any league, will totally resist any change.

People bitched about the big changes made to MLB when they were made for years, but the majority have been good for the game, be it the wild-card, pitch clock, extra inning rule.

Why don't they just go full NFL rules and get it over with?

Then get the NFL to subsidize the league and turn it into a feeder league for the NFL.

Drop the Canadian content as well...Just bend the knee and acquiesce.

BTW..I like it the way it is.

CFL needs to do something to be relevant again and gain new fans. Outside of the Prairies or 'Berta when was the last time anyone heard a young person (25 and under) talk about the CFL? Even when I was in HS decades ago there was only a handful of students (maybe 10 to 15) who followed the CFL out of 1200+ students.

When was the last time anyone in your office over 25 talked about the CFL? Besides the one die-hard fan every large office seems to have. The Grey cup game maybe?

I'm a long time CFL fan and still watch a game or so a week. Yes I am "older" and agree that younger fans are few and far between, especially in Ontario. My first reaction was shock and disappointment. I like many of the aspects of the Canadian game that are different from the American. However after giving it more thought I now support many of the changes, especially moving the goal posts to the back of the end zone. I also agree that the CFL has to do something to grow the fan base. So I am prepared to give the changes a try and hope that the CFL thrives in the future.

If you move the goal posts back then that eliminates most of the returns on missed field goals which in my opinion are very exciting to watch.

Because it will no longer be Canada's football league and still won't make it any more popular than it is now. I do welcome a shorter field goal post in the back of the endzones and the elimination of the rouge. But it should stick to a three down rule because it will still be a wider field with larger endzones than the NFL has. Making a four down league will make scoring way too high.

I agree that is an exciting play and it will be missed. Moving the goal posts back does remove an obstruction that reduces offensive play options and tv camera views of the action which sell the game. Hmmm not as sure now.

That's what they want though don't they...Make it more exciting for the younger fan with the lower attention span that grew up on video games.

You know I don't follow soccer/football at all..To those in the know ..Are they considering rule changes to increase scoring?

These changes were not made to "Americanize/NFL" the game, and there are still some massive differences between the leagues. They were done to increase touchdowns.

Of course you can still complain about the changes from this regard and say they were not needed to the game, but I feel like many of the complaints are not properly focused on what was really done.

CFL games are already high scoring because of the 3 down rule they have to throw more therefore a running game isn't needed as much to run out the clock.
