Netflix's password-sharing crackdown is coming. It already looks grim.

I think I hear Rogers and Bell laughing.
When do larger streaming companies start to devour smaller streaming companies?

Some people are not tech savvy, so no need to be a jerk about it. The answer is torrents, for those who are not familiar.

Imagine if you asked a question about a topic you were unfamiliar with and someone belittled you? Or are you one of those faceless internet people who know eveything. No need to reply, as I don't care. Just try having a little courtesy.
I'm just doing what he does to other people.

Well that didn't take long. I was getting Netflix from a family member and went to put it on today and received the notification.

Wow.
What did it say?

and what do you watch on? Computer, smart TV URL or smart TV app.

I am curious if the app makes a difference.

I am sort of glad that Netflix is cracking down on this and for one reason only. I am sick and tired of my wife's family mooching off of us on all the steaming services we pay for (yes, we pay for a few and I hate to admit it given the other options mentioned here). For years, her family has been watching on my dime and it drives me crazy. We changed the passwords and my asshole brother-in-law goes behind my back and gets it from my kids (who now stopped after I gave them shit).

To make it worse, they never, ever offered to kick some money into it. Then, a few weeks back, I am sitting with my wife's family and her sister, who mooches Netflix from us, in front of me, asks her husbands brother how much they owe him for the Disney plus that they are sharing. WTF! I lost my shit. Ungrateful pieces of shit.
You can sign into your Netflix account from a computer and then delete any devices that you don't want used anytime you want.

I didn’t think Netflix registered devices like other streams platforms. Like Crave for example. I have never had to add or remove a device from Netflix.

Edit- I see it now. It is a new feature. I see how this will work as well now. From their end and how I will avoid issues going forward.

Yup, they're all right there in your account settings. Of course, it's your choice.

I just wanted to let hockeyguy 19 know about this option since the mooching is making him very upset.

Yes. I found it.

It also showed me how to get around it. Or at least possibly. I will have to test it.

I’m not trying to help someone mooch, I want to make sure I can watch anywhere. That is the point of having a streaming service. I travel and I have a trailer so this needs to work everywhere.

I suspect they will try and force biting an additional “household” for my trailer but if the work around works for the iPhone and iPad and then I can make it work for the trailer too. I’m not giving more money when it is me watching. Nobody else.

I also think it's a good option in terms of cleaning up any past devices you might have signed into. Hotels, relatives et al.

I have the account where I can sign into 2 devices and I haven't had any problems.

There must be some option to change the primary device connection for people who are mobile. It would just make sense that two different primary locations could not exist simultaneously. Secondary connections might need to be appended to each separately.

It said something like please "please enter/register your primary address for this account". Then I stopped reading cause I knew there was no point. I watch on a smart TV.

Well. Considering I’m only 1 user, but subscribe to the premium plan at $24 a month. And now they want $8 more. And created a pain in the butt experience of validating user once a month. This just became too expensive for something that will become a hassle and their content has become questionable. Maybe 1-2 new content that comes each month I might view. But at that price, I might as well go to the theatre. Lol

Yeah I found that most times I couldn't find anything to watch. Wouldn't surprise me at all if they struggle and get bought out by one of the big boys like Amazon or Disney.

See I think I will be ok. I will have to bring my fire stick home once every month and connect to my home wifi and then take it back the trailer. That should fix it for me but what about people who don’t use a fire stick and are like you. They can’t take a smart TV.

It is just not right to offer a stream anywhere service and not be able to stream everywhere without paying more.

If they have the ability to control devices, then max out the devices at a certain number.

Hi, have been thinking about migrating my membership among a few streamers after a certain interval.

Example spend 2 or 3 months with Netflix, after 3 months, migrate to Disney, then to Amazon. etc throughout the year, so will get a wider choice over time.

Anyone tried this, as I don’t think there would be any penalties switching after 3 or even 2 months.

All feedback would be appreciated .

It is a lot of work. I just pick a couple and then Kodi the others. I have prime, Netflix and Crave which I get for free from another family member. I use Kodi for Apple TV and Disney. I don’t think either of those is enough to pay.

I get paramount and AMC through Bell. Which I also get from a family member. I use the app from Bell on my fire stick. So it is free. It is free for them as well as it is included in their rent. Win win win.

But I wouldn’t bother switch. Just keep the ones you like and Kodi the ones you won’t use often.

I agree, and I think this is going to backfire on them. As mentioned in a previous post, wouldn't surprise me if they start doing really bad, one of the bigger companies like Amazon or Disney buys them out.
