I have a lady friend going thru the opposite of your problem. All she wants is the father to know his son. She hasn't asked for support etc, but that could change as the boy gets older. I've met him and he's like a deer in the headlights. Scared as hell no matter how hard she tries tor reassure him.
The legal aspects are this, at any time she could sue him for support. The law allows for anyone to sue someone else. She may not win but she can bring a law suit. If you can reach an agreement early on at least you'll have some documentation to fall back on. You've been advised to see a lawyer to learn what your options and potential pitfalls may be. That's good advice. A lawyer may be able to word a document to lessen your liability.
On the other hand it may be a great addition to your life. That would be the best case scenario. I can't see myself knowing I had a son and not wanting to be a part of their life.
Take some time and consider your options carefully. Your choice affects 2 people greatly.

You should discuss your/her options with her and find out what she wants to do as soon as the test is done. Remember this isn't like buying a car or carrying a mortgage. This is a life. Maybe I'm projecting here, but you can't treat that indiscriminately, like a risk/benefit scenario. This may be your son or daughter. You have to value that with respect. If abortion is something you as potential parents decide to do, that's your choice, but don't fuck over this new life because you didn't decide to wear a condom. That would be the lowest example of human behavior.

I totally agree with you. I can name a few careless people myself. I just don't feel like play ping pong with those people today.
