A certain population of America loves its guns more than it loves people. They don't care how many kindergarten high school kids are massacred, they do not want ANYTHING to infringe or interfere with their ability to buy deadly weapons. They all think they'll be the "good guy with a gun" to stop then next murder spree. They don't care about red flag laws, background checks or what not. The sad reality here is that these people have power. They are catered too by the weak and witless GOP who kowtow to this belief because they know it will get them votes. How many GOP politicians sent out fucking Christmas cards last year (and the years before) showing their families holding rifles or hand guns?
They only offer thoughts and prayers, then blame stupid shit for these massacres like unlocked doors or blame mental illness....but then actively vote against funding any support for those suffering from mental illness. They fight any measures that will improve the ATFs ability to track firearms, or stop people from gaining access to them. Look in Florida. They just allowed ANYONE to have a concealed weapon without a licence or training!!!. Plus they have those stupid "stand your ground" laws that allow you to shoot first if you think you might be in danger....
And, look, I cannot say Democrats are blameless. They talk a good game, but haven't been able to pass or introduce any meaningful legislation to curb this stuff. There have been 129 mass shootings in the US so far this year. 129!!!! It's been only 86 days since January 1st....
