If AZ is safe, why not continue with first dozes of AZ and speed up the second dose of Pfizer? Or AZ is safe only when the government wants it to be safe?
They had much larger supplies of Pfizer and Moderna and had more regular delivery schedules. It is an easy decision to focus on them. They set themselves up to have a more reliable second dose scheme if they focus on Pfizer and Moderna first doses, and run out AZ as second doses when more came in.

The decision to pause was also based on the increased and more reliable supply of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines and the downward trend in cases.

I will add, other than seeing that some here want to make the decision makers look bad no matter what, it is obvious some people on here have never had to manage through a complex crisis.

^ That was me a week ago with my second dose as well. I definitely had more side effects from my first dose, even though most people say it's the opposite. I assume it is from people that actually got their second shot 21 or 28 days after the first one.

Just in case Toronto residents don't want to wait for their second dose appointments, here are some pop-up locations this week.

Mine just moved from July 29 to July 1. First was at a pharmacy. Second will be at a different Durham clinic.
I'm getting a Pfizer second jab this Friday which I'm thrilled about. Supposedly the mRNA works better with the Indian variant so the combination of the 2 should be a plus, I hope. LOL

I was planning on waiting till my second AZ was available at 12 weeks but doing some reading and found this.
If I am reading this right it says that AZ followed by Phizer is 3.9 times better at combatting variants than getting two shots of Phizer.
A recent study from Germany released June 1 as a non peer-reviewed preprint adds additional information around mixing and matching AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines. This preliminary data included 26 individuals, ages 25 to 46, who were administered AstraZeneca as their first dose of vaccine, followed by a second dose of Pfizer given eight weeks later. Neutralizing activity was 3.9 times greater against the alpha (B.1.1.7) variant and similar against the delta (B.1.617.2) variant compared to neutralizing activity seen in people who received two doses of Pfizer vaccine. No safety concerns were noted.

Also reading that Moderna is as good a substitute for Phizer.

These tidbits are exactly what I'm going on. It may cause a few extra side effects which I didn't have any at all with the AZ shot but I'm hoping it's worth it.

I had some. Worst was body pain for about 15 mins when I went from waking up on the couch to go to bed.

The rest was just a slightly sore arm and a bit tired.

This is a bad sign: it means the vaccine does not produce the antibodies it is supposed to
Wrong! Why do some throw-out bullshit? Oh, I know, you read it on Facebook or on Twitter so it must be true.

I have just gone on the waiting list for a second dose Phizer after my first dose AZ.
Going over some of the research coming out it seems that a first dose AZ followed by an MRNA at 8 weeks gives more resistance to variants than two doses of MRNA.

Looks like we will not have a choice!

I would imagine this will change soon from FDA approved to approved in your country.
Our PM was just in the same room as their President, both maskless and ours I believe has had only 1 shot of AZ so far.
