GTA & Thereabouts...
What the fuck is with 2023? I'm getting killed with stupid injuries that add up... This year is eye-opening. I'm just not recovering quickly and play through pain all the time.

I realize that young 20yo men will be bigger, stronger, faster than me... but I hate losing. What am I missing? TRT? Steroids?

Thanks for the vent. Should I sign up for Pickleball?

Cherish where you're at. The older you get, the worse it gets.

What sport(s) are you playing?
Hockey.

My back is sore. My elbows and knees feel like they are going to blow up. I've been going to see an RMT frequently and even she's like: "WTF are you doing to yourself?"

If it makes sense, I'm at the point where size/strength has to be replaced by violence/intimidation... That's just not my jam at this point in my life. We all know that we'll lose eventually.

I'm in the same boat. This year has been a disaster. There's only so much you can do to fight the aging process - diet, stretching, rest, massage and physio, conditioning in the off season (weights, cardio, stuff easier on the joints), isotonic drinks and just playing less.

Sadly in my younger years..(Late Teens)whether it was Football..Fastball..Track and Field, I thought I was Superman...when I got injured..I never listened to DR. recos about recovery times...so now I'm paying for it.
Knee
Hip
shoulder
Back
Ankle
Hands
All are now showing the signs of the neglect I I gave them in my youth.
Pain and discomfort are an everyday companion for me..but as they say
If our foresight was as good as our hindsight..we'd be alot farther ahead by a damnsight
That's Life

I pulled a hammie responding to this. It happens.

I have come to terms with the unavoidable fact that I shall leave this world the same way I came in - bald, toothless and shitting my diapers. Although I watch my diet and take care of myself, I have noticed that my bumps and strains do have a longer recovery period. My biggest fear is my mind. I hope when I close my eyes for the last time, I recognize and appreciate the loved ones around me.

It is definitely a tough reality to accept, slowing down and injuries, however not inevitable. You must be more deliberate in your time away from your sport. You need to purposely work on the areas where your injuries are occurring and the supporting structures away from those areas as well. If you put in the time, your body will adapt and the stupid injuries will be reduced. But it takes time and effort. No way around it.

Beating 20 yo men is possible but you need to be smarter. Veteran savvy is earned with time and experience.

Never, never, never sign up for pickle ball.

You are past your prime. It happens to everyone. There is not much you can do about it. Even if you stop the ailments now in a couple of years that wont continue to work.

Time to think of new hobbies that your older body can handle. You can get seriously hurt yourself trying to prove something that will never happen. You are not going to beat the 20 year olds. You just have to learn to face facts.

Im fifty and have noticed the fatigue, slow healing and aches as I have aged.

I believe that the body has to be constantly pushed and worked beyond what your limits are in a progressive manner that builds slowly. as well, eating clean, non processed foods. my body preforms very well on the keto diet(low inflammation). fasting.

I focus on rehabbing my problem areas with various aids such as chiro, massage, laser, etc and building those areas slowly with varying type of activities that are not the norm(rock climbing, jujitsu, boxing, stretching, moving awkward and lifting heavy shit.

being in a sedate type of lifestyle is a killer. being overweight is stressful as well.

I think the majority of the issues people have is from previous injuries and trauma that they played through sports. it comes back to haunt you as you age.

Age is a reality of life.
Have my share of soft tissue and skeletal injuries.

Stay in shape. Excercise, stay loose ( yoga if that’s what you need) especially core. Beyond that not a lot other than accept time catches up to everyone. For my age, I’m in fantastic. shape. Not much I can do about brittle bones, or the fact it takes longer to bounce back.

Consider peptides...Cutting edge stuff. Not health Canada approved. Certainly not for everyone.

Nathalie Niddam is fast becoming an authority on the subject.

I know more than a few people who have taken the dive and are really pleased with the results.

I am over 60 and feel fine. I recommend the RCAF 5BX and do it every morning. It only takes 20 minutes so it's easy to fit in your schedule.
Then I do cycling, racquet sports, walking and other activities.
Yes, I am a bit slower than I was at 40 but I feel great.

Age and it’s impact on our bodies and athletic performance is something we can’t change. However, we can change our approach to it. Begin by accepting this reality and make adjustments so that you can continue doing the things you enjoy. Most importantly, listen to your body: push when you can and ease up when you must. In addition, get plenty of rest and follow a healthy diet to allow your body to recover.

I’m 55 and really started noticing the changes when I entered my fifties. It was more difficult to maintain the intensity of my workouts, took longer to recover and more aches and pains. I especially love to run, but have reduced my mileage significantly. I’ve learned to listen to my body and mix in other activities with less impact. I will keep adapting as I age and plan to stay as active as possible.

Just don’t give up and become a couch potato.

Pickle ball looks like fun like badminton. Choose the latter. Easier on the joints.

Act your age not your shoe size. Stop doing deadlifts, heavy squats, heavy bench. Go light with 20+++ reps per set.

How middle aged are you? 32, 60?
