Is it true that other unions are allowed to provide financial and physical support to the strikers?
Yes. When I have been on strike other unions make donations to the striking union to disperse to members.
Or used to help pay the unions bills(office expenses) while there is no dues coming in.

The one I shop at will remain open, whew!
Mine too... in Burlington.

They have great selection and prices for meat and seafood. Since the burlington location is not part of that union, the are getting the extra meat and seafood from the other locations and expected to have great discount. My favorite is the huge fat T-bone that is almost better than sex.

For the expatriate from Quebec, they have Creton.

I read a few years ago that Metro made more money than Loblaws even though they are smaller.
Not sure if this is still true, but if so, Metro is managed better.
As for the union, I can see why the workers are overriding the reps.
With 70 percent of workers part time and not making much more than minimum wage, what are these union reps doing?

I guess I have to ask why would one rely on a low skill grocery store job (i.e. clerks/cashiers) as your sole means of income? Surely there must be better options out there?

Don't miss Darts' intentions. It's a veiled put down on immigrants of a different skin colour. He is basically trying to insinuate that immigrants are unintelligent, and unqualified for high paying jobs and therefore should just be relegated to low paying blue collar jobs. It follows from his posting history. Lol.
posting history?...you mean his other handles like Rockslinger, Skyrider.......................anyway you been here for a couple of months..but i cant help thinkingyou are a reincarnation of another poster........not centering you out..there are plenty of posters now who were posting under other names prior

You obviously missed my posts about my own immigrant parents who worked at menial jobs to keep body and soul together. Or, the post(s) about the immigrant cab driver whose daughter finished at the top of her high school graduating class.

Personally, I worked as a busboy and as the old equivalent of Uber Eats when I was still in school.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

You will talk about immigrant stories where they are low paid blue collar workers because that is how you see them. You cannot see immigrants as educated, highly paid, intelligent, professional and very productive members of society. Heck, you won't post anything about the millions of immigrants who are employed and earn in 6 figures right here in the GTA, right now.
You missed my post(s) about our IT Department being 100% East Indian (although I don't know if they are all immigrants).

Did you also miss my posts about the numerous CEO's who are East Indians?

As I've been asserting for years.

He doesn't leave a trail of bread crumbs. It's whole loaves of bread.

You've probably made the list of "usual suspects". He's used that phrase dozens of times as opposed to defending his views.

I joined the board in May, and I have never been on this board prior. Who are you referring to? I have not seen Rockslinger or Skyrider posts anywhere either, so I am not sure if those are the same people as Darts.
Not by me, but it's been documented by others He's been banned because of thing he said by using his previous handles. Go ahead and ask him. He won't man up but he'll most likely turtle up.

Add my late parents to that list with great pride. They were grateful for the opportunity and repaid it with hard work and respect for the laws and culture of their new country.

Just to wrap up. I say a lot of positives about EI's from CEO's to high tech staff (100% in our company) plus how they always rank high in their graduating class. (Let's not forget that an EI lady is/was the CEO of Only Fans.)

I know a great guy who started off with Loblaws at 16 pushing buggies. Went on to manage most departments, then store manager in several locations and eventually became a district manager, great pay, perks and pension. It can be done.
Kinda like my story...LoL...I was a painter's apprentice back in my home country early 90's. when I got here...started at homedepot pushing buggies...they never put me in the paint department despite in my resume that I was a painter's apprentice and have about 5 years experience, eventually they put me on the painters department because I could answer all the questions and inquiries better than who they have...i became a supervisor there too after 2 years...but there's no money working on big box stores....good stepping stone and you can always cross train to other trades.

Congrats to you.

I mentioned that immigrants often start at or near the bottom of the corporate hierarchy. It was not meant as a slight on immigrants but one of our members got really upset about that. You are a living example of what I meant.

In other examples, immigrant parents work in menial jobs (e.g. driving a cab) so their children can do better in life. Again this is not meant to slight immigrants but just a fact of life.

I assume not too many immigrants are millionaires and/or pull down 6 figure salaries on day one.

BTW: Some Canadians blame rich immigrants for driving up house prices but that is another story.

Definitely. As a minority I always encounter newcomers on my ethnicity. we're a tight knit group just like any others...so when there are newcomers, we kinda welcome them and it's kind of like the norm as a newcomer that you will have some challenges looking for a job that doesn't start at the bottom. no matter what experiences you have. There are exceptions. My brother who was an electrical engineer in Hong Kong moved here with a hefty offer when their company got bought by a company here in Canada. So he started pretty good. He got moved to the US for another Hefty offer and now lives there. Most immigrants who has no job offer and just moved here hoping for the greener pastures know what the deal is...start at the bottom and work your way up.

Costco pays and treats its workers very well. I have seen employees at my Costco for 20 years. That tells ya something. Unions are obsolete and irritating to the public.
The primary purpose of blue collar unions is to allow stupid people to be able to afford to buy cars.
