On the second goal that Florida scored, where was McCabe? Hmmmmmmmm??

5 feet off to the side of the net on his ass swiping at the puck! This has become his trademark. I just dont get it, just dont. Either he is facing his goaltender trying to check, which is wrong, out of position, like on his ass 5 feet away from the net or he just watches his man just skate right by him untouched. When Crosby scored that goal when they lost to Pittsburgh, I literally screamed at the TV. Crosby is playing hurt or is playing through some pain, you think that would give McCabe the juice to really give it to him, naaaaaaw he just goes easy on him and what happens, he scores!

Food for thought. When was the last time McCabe took a roughing penalty, or was involved in a fight? 4 years ago?

Ahh well, TGIS.
Twins!!! Yes, that was one of the things I was thinking of when I looked at your pic!

Anyway, thanks for the links for McCabe's blunders. Although I don't know if I should laugh or cry.

Leafs just can't protect a lead, period. Its defensive plays are simply ugly, period. Once under pressure, they buckle, period.
In the rare instances that Leafs manages to squeeze out a win, it is due to the opponent's lack of speed and / or scoring power and / or a fluky save here and there by the Leafs' goalie.
I maintain that one of McCabe and Kabina (preferrably both) must go in order to free up many millions for better talents if the Leafs were to go anywhere.
In today's NHL where speed and skills dominate, John F has built a team without neither. Both Mcfat and Kabina are grossly overpaid, oversized, pilons, good only for opposing forwards to skate around to make highlight reels.
As a long-time, frustating, Leafs' fan, I'd much prefer to see the Leafs play some of its young defensive prospects and miss the playoff than to see the status quo, which at best will barely make the playoff than go nowhere for another year, and another year, and another year.

unlikely any team would be dumb enough to take on their bloated long term contracts - and those contracts, you can thank JFJ

keep in mind McCabe is not the worst of all signings in NHL history... it's his play, not his pay that sucks right now.

...I guess if he was playing at a Lidstrom/Pronger level, we wouldn't copmplain about his pay. But McCabe has always been the Leafs answer to Adrain Aucion. He's one dimensional, and now that he can't even bring that dimension to the table,he plays like a 1.5 mil defenseman, not a 7 mil one. I think that means his pay sucks for the way he plays, or ever had, or has the potential to play.

Good point,

however the pay/play ratio is a "pissing line" and basically allows us "lets yak about hockey" people something to compare..

Here is a stat: McCabe is -6 after 9 games. He ranks 208th out of 214 in the league for defencemen based on +/-. BTW, Rob Blake is 210th.

Rob Blake gets a pass after the stellar seasons he has had thus far in his career. He is getting near the end of the line, and has accomplished much.

McCabe? he THINKS he has accomplished much, and deserves a pass....

That's 136 posts that all basically say the same thing. Mind you, that's just in this thread.

The point has been made, nobody's disputing that McCabe is not the second coming of #4. Time to move on to some original thoughts.

Rob Blake said he's not concerned with his #s this year... he's taking on the role of maturing the young squad he has and will retire after this season or next and is going to assume assistant coaching duties with the Kings.

Like I said...Blake gets a pass, and he'll be a great coach. He and Chelios are among likely the top 5 league-wide in terms of fitness, they both train all summer with that guy "T.R." in California.....imagine a young guy new to the team 20 years old, and you gotta explain why you are not in as good a shape as the 38 yr old guy who has been to war for 18 years....

It'a been reported from Sportnet that McCabe has a slight groin pull. Man, if there isnt a better time to put his overpayed underproducing ass in the press box for more then 10 games now is a perfect time.

Will Maurice have the guts to shut him down?? Probably not.

They have played a great game tonight... Except for the last 4 minutes.. but they should hold on to wint the game...

Is this a coincidence???

Does Maurice have the guts? I think he has the guts... but really, how much guts does it take to sit a d-man that is probably your
5th best d-man and the fans really dislike..

there has been a story circulating that McCabe does not have a slight groin pull, or any injury at all.

Maurice & JFJ went to him and said "you're sitting the next few games (because you're not producing) and we're giving more minutes to Kaberle and the call-ups. We can tell the press you're injured and you can save some face, but if you whine about it, we will go public with the benching".

Even with a slight breakdown in the 3rd with the dumb penalties, the Leafs D looked way better without McCabe.

Circulating from where/who? Post please. JFJ/MLSE will never admit they fucked up with that signing. He/they dont have the balls. The defense looked a bit better tonight but Gill and Kubina look like lead footed amatures out there as always. Mc Cabe really is not their biggest problem. (other than the contract). I like the youngin's but unfortunately its about playing the fuckers that you sign and pay the big $$$$$ too rather than those that will actually make the team better. BLOW IT UP

It may well just be BS gossip, but I heard it from a friend of friend of a friend of Steve Simmons of the Sun.

If McCabe is still out by the time they play NJ on November 2nd, the story may come out then in the mainstream media.
