There are indeed a lot of moronic GMs in NHL. You can count New Jersey's Lamoriello as one, for instance, in firing his capable coah Julien right before playoffs and did not add any reinforcement for playoffs. You can count Buffalo's Regier as another, who lost his top two centers and co-captains, via his stunningly stupid negotiation strategies and tactics. Buffalo's failure to win the Stanley Cup the past two seasons and probably this one can be traced back to Regier. So don't be too harsh on Ferguson Jr.. Just fire him if he fails to do his job. LOL!!!

Regier and Laqmoriello have built some good teams over .. lets say the past 5 seasons.. with Cups and/or decent playoff runs .. compared to the leafs (JFJ/quinn?Dryden) ... not so much

Even if he waives his clause, there's no way to trade him, nobody will take on that contract, he's the least desired player out there. Before the cap you could trade a player and agree to pay part of his salary just to get rid of him, that can't be done now.

Was it JFJ that signed McCabe to his last contract???? Can someone confirm?

I am not trying to defend JFJ, although I think in general Toronto fans are too harsh. However, the GM only signs the players, the Coach is responsible for lighting a fire under their asses to play up to their potential. And the players are responsible for earning their pay.

In the Leafs case, right now... all three are underperforming--- granted there were some serious errors made in signing McCabe and Kubina to such large contracts.... But I do remember that at the time of his signing, McCabe was coming off career years and was pretty much in demand.

Seems the Leafs for years have been signing guys coming off of career yrs and getting the worst of years out them after signing. Not much bang for the buck (pardon the pun). With Salary cap now it hurts and even less Value for the dollar.

Kubina.....thats a whole other story....

This is one underperforming slug that they CAN do something with. Send that guy to the Marlies, NOW, leave him there. Use the 5 Million to get two scorers.

Geezuz, he is bad. Pre lockout the guy had the stuff, now everyone is too fast for him becuase he can't hook and hold as they come through the neutral zone.

He'd be good in the A though......

LOL!!! Perhaps no one will dispute the fact that some people are more moronic than others. Out of this three, perhaps JFJ is the biggest moron of all. ;) Back to Regier, the good doc does not see that he is a Stanley Cup GM material. Hope I am wrong but so far he proves that I am right unfortunately.

LOL!!! Apparently during the 20 seasons as Devils' GM, New Jersey appeared in the Stanley Cup finals in 1995 (won), 2000 (won), 2001 (lost) and 2003 (won). Nonetheless, it does not make Larmoriello less moronic in firing coach Julien 3 games before playoffs when Julien was doing an excellent job for the team.

Honestly Doc, I don't like seeing the guy fail. The better he does, the better the club does. But its been a long time since the winter Olympics ( where I feel this slide really started)

Being that McCabe is a professional, and a very highly paid one.. I just can't see how much longer folks can wait for magic to happen. Sometime change is the best way.
Kathleen darling, you are still much too kind to Bryan. Apparently, too many professional athletes are ridiculously over paid and obviously under performed, McCabe is just one of them. That being said, when they are paid outrageous amount of money in terms of millions, they are expected to perform consistently at high level and their margin of error is a lot narrower than the lesser paid players. If they cannot perform and constantly impact the team negatively, they do not deserve to stay. McCabe is no exception. Management should make a wise decision, bite the bullet, and do something about Bryan for the good of the team. If JFJ has no gut and not willing to do it, someone higher up can do it and perhaps rid of JFJ in the process. Procrastination does the team no good.

Incidentally the good doc bet you look good in any color you wear, not just black. *Wink, wink*

trade this fat bum, he should waive his no-trade clause and go back to island and play for charles wang, mcfat is a useless defenseman, they call him an offensive defensiveman, but all he can do is one-timers, he isnt a puck mover or a power play qb, this guy is overhyped due to the toronto media, if mcfat played in san jose he would be a nobody, he should thank the overrated toronto/canadian media for pumping him up, and for jfj for that contract

JFJ did the McCabe deal, McCabe wasn't in demand, others would have signed him but for much less. JFJ is a tit, gone by Xmas.

I just read the Hamilton Spec, and it doesn't appear McCabe is too effected by the play. His comments are certainly.. interesting.

[McCabe:

"Somebody makes a mistake every game," he says. "Didn't quite put the puck where I wanted to but that's the way it goes.
"It's not like it was the seventh game of the Stanley Cup final. It was the seventh game of the season.

I love this quote eh?

gee McGoat you cost the team a point ... how many points did the Larfs miss the playoffs by last year ?

me would be happy if that somebody just makes one mistake/game, not the 3 to 5 major bonehead plays/game that I have seen.

Assuming it was a bad move (and none of us really know what goes on behind closed doors, he may have had no alternative) any GM in any sport (especially with the tenure of Lou) is gonna fuck up now and again. Not every move is a gem but to call a guy with the unquestioned success of Lamoriello a moron is in itself moronic. So there.:p

If Maurice continues to keep him off the ice the last minute of a close game, he may become your new hero. :D
