The game was a low-scoring, close game that could have literally went either way. Around the final minute Detroit hit the crossbar, and with seconds remaining Fleury had to make two big saves to seal the deal.
I was a Penguin's fan when Lemieux was playing, but this time around I was going for Detroit. Everyone says that Hossa was a traitor or a sell-out for going to Detroit but he did what he thought was right. He took less money to try and win a championship and not many athletes do that these days. With the current global recession, Hossa wasn't just thinking about the money and the majority of the middle-class, poor people don't realize that. Also if Hossa stayed with Pittsburgh, what makes you think that they would still make it to the cup final? The trades for Guerin and Kunitz really helped the Penguins and they wouldn't have gotten them had Hossa still been around.
It was nice to see Malkin win the Conn Smythe though, since he was Pittsburgh's best player during the regular season and the playoffs. Unlike last year he showed-up in the final, but where was Crosby? That Zetterberg, Lidstrom and when he returned, Datsyuk sure shut him down. If you look at Pittsburgh overall, they do win more games without Crosby than they do without Malkin. Hopefully he gets more recognition now instead of always hearing Crosby this and Crosby that.
Also, the Pens 4th line came through again and that was the best line in this series. Talbot with 2 goals last night, and both Staal and Kennedy stepping it up throughout the series really made a big difference.
But this could be a dynasty in the making since Fleury, Malkin, Crosby and Staal are all under 25, and will be together for at least another 4 years.
