I strongly disagree with the thought police mentality
Is he working in a health care capacity or does he have any registered medical training? No
Did he do anything wrong at work? No.
Does anyone even know his name? Highly doubtful, I watch NHL regularly and could not name a single "singer" in the league
Was this rally so large it embarrassed the local govt? Probably

So beyond a political motivation why was he fired?
If it was me I would sue them for wrongful dismissal
I’m sure Vancouver hockey fans know who he is, he’s been the anthem singer for close to 20 years.

Sue him for what?
Notice dates... he was fired BEFORE he sang the anthem (fired 5th, event was on 6th)

Wrongful dismissal
Its not like he did anything wrong (arrest / ticket)
There is NO law in any province (or state) that says a mask must be worn outside; esp in Donnellys case as he is well over 6 feet away from others (he is up on stage while singing)
Also this is not Minority Report; you can't even fire someone for Future Crimes

As well he has an action since announcement was made through Twitter
That's not legal either, it is public shaming
Owner already knows he getting sued; you notice he has CHANGED the main tweet and erased the other one?

This was a purely political move and it is going to blow up in their faces

An employer can fire an employee and not even have to give a reason...as long as they pay the legally prescribed severance.
Who knows if this guy was on the payroll or just hired on a contract basis from year to year.

Omg are you ever right?

FIRED means cause so no you can not just randomly fire someone you don't like
Even for layoff you can decline the offered severance and fight for more

ON has similar laws but BC is even more leaning to employee side than here

As you can clearly see they are NOT allowed to fire him because the Canucks are not operating right now
(read section for when they are not allowed to give written notice)

And obv there is no just cause since nothing he did would have violated anything in his terms of employment or contract whichever he is under (I suspect employee though... we are talking 20 years of tenure... even a layoff would be costly not even factoring in the illegal nature of this firing or the public defamation of announcing it to the media; the owner TWEETED to the media he was fired BEFORE event took place and did not even have the balls to discuss it with him before getting fired)

Read the first sentence in the link you copied...you proved my point and you are wrong again...you’re just trying to be difficult.

Pay the legally prescribed severance and you can get rid of anybody...there is a formula for severance pay that the employer must pay, they don’t have to negotiate.

i doubt this guy was on the payroll but was a contract hire.

It’s possible that he was just a freelance or contract game day employee, in which case, he’s pretty much screwed, however, I suggested a lawsuit because it’s illegal to throw a pillowcase over someone’s head and beat them with blunt objects.

I’m sure there is also a morality and behaviour clause in his contract that the team invoked.

In my company we call that the "conduct unbecoming" clause. Punishment can range from a verbal rebuke, written reprimand, suspension, termination and/or death by hanging.

Yes, he was probably a contract worker but even if he was payroll they can terminate him.

Fired for singing?
I guess you didn't read the article.

It was not for singing per se. He was fired because ownership felt his unbecoming conduct was not representative of how the team wished to be viewed. You know, socially responsible. Don't endanger others.

A) he (obviously) was not contractual since the owner fired him; if his contract had elapsed he was free to move on and no reason to fire him
B) even if he quit beforehand, the public labeling and attempt at shaming is quite illegal and would have resulted in a civil lawsuit anyways

Canucks need to pay up

He was fired BECAUSE he said he did not believe in Covid

So you’re saying that the Vancouver Canucks support the unreliable PCR test, testing of asymptomatic people, the fallacy that cloth and paper masks protect at all, and that closing businesses and/or deciding what people can, and can’t buy inside the same store, is socially responsible?

I don't believe that I got that specific. I just know that it seems they were not happy with his anti-mask/vaccine denial stance. His views on that did not align with theirs. They must believe that the majority of their market agrees with them and the club did not want to alienate that large segment of their market.

No and you've stretched it to unreasonable terms.

The world has Public Heath departments for a reason...

You're making that up...you don't know if he was a contract employee or not...your point "B" makes no sense at all, the team did nothing illegal and their is no grounds for a civil lawsuit.

You are wrong again.

They publicly shame in in media for his views?
You think you can't sue someone for that?

Are you for real?

Regardless of anything else, his nature of employment, his views right or wrong, you can't post random shit in papers without consequence.
You know what libel, slander, defamation mean right?
