Despite the loss the Leafs still hold a dominant record of 18-6 against teams which currently do not hold a playoff spot so I don’t think its a loss that we should be too worried about . This team’s offensive talent and style of play have proven once again that it’s a great regular season team.
I’ve been paying more attention to how this team plays against the better teams in the east, ie teams they may meet in the first round. Even with two recent wins over Pittsburg and Carolina, the Leafs record against these current playoff teams stands at 5-6. Two asterisks about this record: 1) three losses were in October when the Leafs were struggling mightily and 2) how few games against these teams comparing to the other teams.
It’s also interesting to note that the Leafs‘ record against the teams which currently hold a playoff spot in the West stands at 9-5. This may be an indication that the power is shifting to the east ? Too bad the Leafs are not going to meet any of this teams in the playoffs until the final.
