I thought I start a thread on what we are all listening on a daily basis. The days of playing a record from start to finish is no longer the norm as many of today's generation play singles - well I am still old school and love the start to finish experience, so here is what I have on the menu today.

I have two iPods with 31,000 songs combined and put them on shuffle. The kicker is that not a single song was downloaded off the internet. All were transferred from my own collection of 4,000 CDs.

On a different tack- from my LP's haul of scrounging 6 Hamilton thrift stores last weekend:
The Sound of the Academy- Neville Marriner conducting the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, 1987.

Kind of a best of classical music snippets.
I recognize a lot of them from watching the soundtracks to Bugs Bunny/Merry Melodies shows about 50 years ago.

And we were oblivious to the education we were receiving in The Arts.

Today it is Fiedler conducting Boston Pops: Music from Million Dollar Movies. 1960 LP mono.
Back from when $1M take from a movie was a big amount.
I mostly bought this to get a recording of Addinsell's Warsaw Concerto, a piano piece from a WW2 movie callled Dangerous Midnight in its UK release and Suicide Squad for its US release.
But has other tunes that were overtures to big movies prior to 1960 that are nice to hear as well.

Tonight while cooking dinner-

Latin Lush and Lovely -- Morton Gould and his Orchestra - 1964. LP

Mostly Latin flavored jazz stuff re-arranged to work with an orchestra.

The guy was a life long musician and used to play in theatres to silent movies and later as bridge music composer and conductor on radio.
So he could make great music out of just about anything.

Wife had a pal of ours over for a lunch. Good chat all afternoon.
Now she is being dropped to the train, so I have time for some relaxing piano on LP.
Artur Rubenstein: The Chopin I Love.

A weird pressing though.
Marked RCA as LSC-4000, but pressed in Korea by a Jigu records using RCA Masters.
Artwork on cover suggested released about 64-69.
Better inner jacket on this foreign pressing than RCA otherwise used in the domestic market.

As you would expect, expert ivories tinkling by Rubemstein.

Forgot one I was listening to when I was working around the house yesterday:
-Picking up/putting away stuff just dropped from the work week.
-Laundry backlog processed,
-Sweep and swiffer, particularly under the dining room table.
-Get the swiffy wand thing out and hunt the spider webs in the room's roof corners.

It is amazing how easy it is to get motivated to do the housework when someone is coming to lunch the next day.

The Spitfire Band LP 1981.

Amazing Toronto based swing band.
In a way wish I was out seeing bands like this 40 years ago.

I don't stream and t here is no music on my phone.
I listen to satellite radio or my iPod. And in my office I have a min stereo system which plays my CD's.
I am putting together a component hi-fi stereo system for home use and I am rebuilding my vinyl collection. I currently own about 25-30 LP's. By end of 2024 that will be more than doubled.

Nice am. Bright light streaming in the back patio door.
Watching the squirrels run around my back yard.
Perfect last morning of a long weekend.

Moussourgsky- Pictures at an Exhibition, and
Britten - The young persons guide to the orchestra LP 1968

Chicago Symphony - Directed by Seiji Ozawa, who died a week or so ago.
He was TSO director in mid 1960's.

Saturday while a pal was over for coffee in the am. Sun streamed in the back window and we soaked the warm of it up.
Caught up on each others going on and talked current state of politics and war.

Peter Nero plays a salute to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass LP 1967.

Organized - Chris Waxman at the Hammond Organ LP - likely about 1971.
We agreed this sounded good but reminded us of public skating at the arena as kids.

Morton Gould and his Orchestra- Gershwin- Rhapsody in Blue and Preludes of Piano. LP 1956 mono.
Played a bit faster in tempo that is usual of the piece, but nice as the piano is mixed as part of the orchestra
Rather then standing above it like is the way the piece is mixed a lot of the time, or maybe just played as solo piano.
