So does good bye equate to have a good trip in Japanese?

Try Google Transtalate or try calling the consulates and ask them for a translation. I called the the German consulate and asked them to translate :

Essen zie shiesse und sterben.

They told me what it means and told me that my german is realy bad.

I said I was sorry, I am not mean enough to speak good german!

"Itte irasshai" (go and come back) is closer I guess to what you wanted, "Sayonara" is more common though.

Sayonara means goodbye when you expect not to see the person again in the near future, whereas you would say "Ato de" or something if you thought you would see them again very soon.
