Quick reviews of Harper records for almost 10 yrs as PM
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-election-2015-harper-political-obit-1.3273677

I think Steve-o biggest mistake was reduced the GST by 2%. 2% cut translates to reduce 14 billion annually in revenue according to the article.
If he has not do so, we probably has more than 3 yrs of surpluses.

One thing I will give our former PM credit is that when he promised about cutting taxes, he delivered. However, these tax cuts or credits mainly benefit the wealthy or for the people the fairly financially secured that do not need these tax breaks.
Including massive corporate tax cuts that did NOTHING to increase foreign investment. NOTHING. It was a lazy policy rather then strategically offering targeted incentives to attract employers and increase exports. Lazy, ideological and megalomaniacal that was Harpo..

Harper has also resigned as leader of the Conservative Party:

http://www.vancouversun.com/news/ca...es+lose+cabinet+ministers/11450333/story.html

So long Harper! You'll always be villified as one of the worst Prime Ministers of Canada!
Nah, he was a pretty good PMd and got a few things right, but he was in power too long and in the last few years starting to act like he was entitled. So did the Liberals when they were in for many years. It is important for voters to jerk the chains now and then and change the guard.

Election produced the right outcome but Harper wasn't a bad leader. He cleaned a lot of shit up in the first five years. Back in those days he kept the social conservatives on a leash and stuck to good economic policy. Unfortunately he let them loose and we got c36'd, but in other regards he did OK.

But definitely time to go!

You really think a part-time drama teacher with a back room cadre of puppet masters in the slimiest of parties will do a better job as PM?

Good luck with that!
Get over it. Justin Trudeau won the election fair and square. Canadians have decided. Get with the program.

Maybe you could bestow on us,... some your considerable free world economic knowledge,...and explain how you know the tax cuts did NOTHING.

OF course, as you state, "he was a pretty good PMd" and he had to do "OK" when he first got elected. The only reason is that he was running a minority party.... he had to look "caring"...

You are correct... let's not forget... the only reason Harper promised a GST break for us was to get elected... straight and simple.

For you to suggest that the Liberals have " back room cadre of puppet masters in the slimiest of parties" is very bold and biased statement. I bleed red, but I don't wear rose coloured glasses... They all probably do it... The Cons are no Saints, either.... The Conservatives believed the only way to power was ensuring the NDP vote was strong enough (especially in the GTA) to split with the Liberals... they called the NDP to work harder to take down the Liberals? For real?!?!?! How is that a campaign strategy?!?!?
Thank goodness Canadians are smarter than that... you can read it here...

So by this logic, do you think JT will forego the "caring" part and go right to screwing us or will that take a few years?
Well Harper began his screwing on Day One. You remember he not only said he'd never appoint an unelected Senator, he added a promise he'd never do that awful undemocratic Liberal thing and put an unelected Senator in Cabinet. Then he appointed his Campaign Chair, Michael Fortier to the Senate so he could be Minister of Public Works. We all remember it's Public Works that hands out the patronage plums and sponsorship money don't we?

I'm sure Justin will have no trouble beating that record. Already has.

Agreed with you on both points. Cutting GST help Cons get more votes. Plain and simple.

Also, the Cons lead you to believe that lower corporate taxes mean the business will pass some of their profit to consumers. It is a win win situation lol
The conservatives NEVER said,..."lower corporate taxes mean the business will pass some of their profit to consumers",....but the fact that they might even stay in business,...is really why anybody would try to maintain an environment that encourages business,...the exact reverse of the Fiberals .

Just watch the market and the CDN dollar in the coming weeks,...for proof..

Well I guess I chose the wrong word to use here. What I meant is that since Harper was in a minority back in 2006, he had to give a little to take a little... Historically minority parties always have done better to keeping a balanced approach to the whole state of things over total majorities... That said, I don't think Justin Trudeau will forgo "caring" and screw us over... I don't think it's in his character, especially the way he talks about the country and his family. Liberals just have a different approach the way to run the country and how we (as a country) are portrayed in the world.

Are you referring to the sponsorship scandal that the last Liberal Government was involved in? Every government that is in power for too long ends up with scandals. McGuinty said he wouldn't raise taxes and promptly did so right after being sworn in. But let's not focus on the past, we can't change that. What is you prediction on how long it will take JT to screw us?

It may not be in his character but one thing all politicians have in common is a need to stay in office. I actually believe JT is one of the good guys, however misguided and naive I think he is. I don't think he is corrupt yet...that is a matter of time. At that point, he will screw us over, they all do. They have to in order to retain power because they all work backroom deals that com to light...we call them scandals and you are correct, Liberals certainly have a different approach on how they run the country.
