What about that Carolina Panter--Carruth? who is serving time for manslaughter or Ray Lewis who was looking at some serious time behind bars acouple of years ago.
That didn't happen during the game...I think.
Hehehehehehehe, violence is a large part of sports, without it we would all be watching golf - Which is why it is so damn boring!
Hockey has not been a serious sport because of social factors. The majority of the US is situated in warm climates - Thus the opportunity to play the game in a recreational manner is greatly reduced. Sports such as basketball, football and baseball can be enjoyed year round in many states. Hockey for the most part, has been centralized in the northern states...Until recently...That trend has been changing in the last few years. Roller hockey has caught on in the warmer climates and the sport itself has garnered interest in those states. Witness the recent World Junior championships. The US actually trained a team for a long time to compete. Hockey has become a big sport in the southern US and will only increase in support over the next few years.
Will the "Violence" aspect of hockey subside? Chances are it will as the younger players adapt more to the use of face shields. But it is still the fastest game on earth and even if you eliminate the fighting, the hitting to some people will be considered violence.
