Leafs playoff game assessments

Our boys played their hearts out and the only reason we lost was inexperience. It was a sick feeling when Boston scored the winner, it was like one moment you thought you won the lottery and the next you got ran over by a truck. I can imagine the players must feel a lot worse than we fans do.

If you're a real Leaf fan, you should show appreciation rather than pointing fingers at individual players. I know for the first time since the Gilmour days I can say I feel proud to be a Leaf fan again and I just cant wait for next season to start. They got better as the series went along and if we were to start a brand new 7 game series all over again today, I'd bet my house for a Leafs win.

A lot of credit have to go to Burke for having built this young and exciting team. Had he replaced Wilson with Carlyle one year earlier, he might still be the Leaf GM today, and its my guess that the reason he got fired was because of some kind of blow ups he had with upper management when he found out he wasn't going to get the chief CEO job.
Are you serious he wanted the MLSE post that Tim Lieweke got ?

It was just a wild guess. I just thought the timing of his firing was weird. If it was because of the team's performance, they would have fired Colengelo as well.

Colangelo is a corporate suit who presents a professional image. Burke...not so much.

Randy Carlyle did a post morten(sp) to-day. He said he should never have shut down the offense after 50 minutes.

Like I said earlier, they're not built to play that way and obviously Carlyle knew that so in a way he kinda outcoached himself. You stick with what got you there in the first place.
Three days later and it still sucks. I still don't agree that the better or more deserving team won. The Bruins poured it on for 10 minutes and pulled off a miracle that likely will never be repeated in our lifetime. If they play the same way against the Rangers as they did in game seven, they will not win. Spot Lundquist a three goal lead and then start playing, see what happens.

A complete and utter third period debacle.

NO EXCUSE.

The reason..of course...is a complete defensive zone breakdown. They failed to chase pucks, failed to fight for pucks, were outworked, cleared extremely poorly, and allowed the Bruins to play the game entirely inside the Leafs blue line.

Given the utter defensive collapse, the Leafs did not deserve the win last night.

Yes it was pathetic. yes I was screaming loudly, and yes I will renew my season tickets. But the better team won last night...and onwards we go.

As they say...IT'S NOT OVER TO ITS OVER....AND IT'S CERTAINLY NOT OVER HALF WAY THROUGH THE THIRD.

I AM NOT SURPRISED FRankly...given my lack of faith in our DEFENCE.
Oh I see ... and the Leafs were not going to make the playoffs playing Phaneuf so much.

Actually my analysis was SPOT ON, given all the day after analysis that agreed with mine.

An improved Leaf DEFENCE is CLEARLY the summer priority.
Leafs got tired, that is what killed them. Carlyle even said the mistake he made was shutting down the offence.

What was your prediction before the series?
Likely, I cannot recall, it was prediction of a Leaf loss where it was clearly Phaneuf's fault.

I strongly suspect Dion is not in the long term plans. Given that he will NOT be resigned, I suspect he will be traded at the deadline next year.

For no other reason...( yes he is paid too much), but more specifically , the DEFENCE needs a COMPLETE overhaul.
Phaneuf will not be resigned at $6.5 ? ... Gee did you come up with that all by yourself ?

Defence needs a 'COMPLETE overhual' ? Complete ? You did say complete ? ...
So no Phaneuf, no Gunnarsson, no Franson, no Liles, no Koska, no O'Byrne, no Fraser and no Gardiner ?

I was watching one of the TV guys talk about the value of Colton Orr. When game 6 started, Chara was banging every Maple Leaf in sight. Then Coach sent Orr on the ice to teach Chara to "behave himself".

Orr is a very good fighter and one tough player, but do not think for one second that he intimidates Chara
Orr can beat people up
Chara can beat someone into a comma

Unless he runs into Chris Neil who had him at his mercy and one punch would have sent him back to Slovenia.
Chris Neil was going to punch a semi-colon ? On paper or a screen ?

You must have missed the fight between Chara and Neil during the regular season. Neil was beating the crap out of Chara and the only thing that saved Chara was Neil holding back.

I could not find a 2013 fight between the two, but I did find one in 2012 where Chara threw a few punches, then slipped and fell. Neil did not hit Chara while he was down, if he had Chara would have killed him and all the Bruins would have jumped in and started a riot.

Yes, that was the one. Neil could have knocked his lights out but held back (code of the warrior).
Hold on there Slick.
You said Neil was 'punching Chara's lights out'. The video I saw Neil did not get one punch off, just held back after the fact.
