It's not just 8 points. They also have a game in hand. So consider it at least 9 and more probable 10 since they don't lose in regulation.
Of course it's possible. Even if they come back down, 8 plus pts is hard to make up considering 3 pt games. Boston is a tank. Their lineup is solid in all areas. There are no weak marks for the playoffs in the Conference. All 8 teams going in will be good. So getting a wild card team is not a walk in the park. They've lost to Columbus and Montreal, granted those are covid years.
Bottom line is just get in and don't choke in game 7.

The only way I see Boston being caught is if Ullmark is not available. He's 20-1-1 with a GAA of 1.90 and SV% of .938
Backup Swayman is 7-3-3 2.68 GAA and SV% .897
Don’t forget the trade deadline, no doubt Boston will look to add a few more pieces to become even tougher to beat.

It is sad seeing the Leafs got beaten up 5:1 by the Krackens. Tavaris got one goal assisted by Mathews and Marner.
We paid Mathews and Marner a total of $20 millions a year to score goals and not just to assist.
They blame goalie Matt Murray. True, Matt should not have let 5 goals in. 2 of those could have been saved.
Time to bring back Samsonov as goalie. The Leafs Stanley Cup droit will continue, unless they replace the GM and
the Head Coach. I am sickened to the stomach watching Sheldon Keefe after the game talking to the reporters at TSN.
He has no clue and did not take any responsibility and offered no action plan to turn things around. Why are we still paying him?
The only reason why he is still around is Kyle Dubas wants him there. This the the last season for Kyle as GM of the Leafs under the
current contract and I hope they wont renew. We need a new leadership at the top.

Raptors are having same bad results and kept losing. Why are we still paying them multi -million $$? Masai got a big pay raise and
got nothing done. Toronto needs a new mentality for sports management. Perform or out. And not "keep losing and keep getting paid".

A well thought out, rational post.

‘That’s a bit over reacting. They’re not as good as they were when they were on a hot streak, or as bad when they’re in a slump. Every team has hot and cold streaks. They’ll end up doing very well in the regular season but their playoff run will start and end with their goaltending and defence. I’m still seeing too much stick checking and other than Hall, all their d men would give up possession and resort to stick checking rather than engaging physically in puck battles.

As for goaltending, I wasnot convinced that they had the answer even when they were on top of the league’s save percentages. I hope I’m wrong but unless some huge improvements are made in these two areas, I don’t think they’ll get pass either Tempa or Boston in the playoffs.

Glad to see the Leafs beat the Red Wings tonite. Samsonov definitely better goalie than Murray. Tonite’s Leafs performance is more like a winning team. They should play every game like they did tonite. Tavares is worth the $10 million he is paid.

Versus Seattle, Leafs actually played well first period. They came out strong. Second period Seattle showed why they're the highest scoring even strength team. They're built with speed like the first year Vegas. They should make the playoffs in this their second year.

Versus Detroit, Detroit looked good first period. Leafs were held to 2 shots. Samsonov looked steady. Goaltending more than anything looks to be what differentiates when Leafs are on and when they're not. During their November run save percentage near the top. During the last 8 games or so near the bottom.
