Wonder how Wayne Simmonds is doing...if anyone feels like a discarded bag of trash, it's gotta be him. Sad end for the supposed 'toughest' Leaf. Doesn't even have enough gas left in the tank to be a spare, and the Leafs went out at the deadline to acquire 'more grit and toughness'. Bitter pill to swallow, even for a cement head like him. Yet he refuses to go down to the Marlies to get some live playing time and up his chances he wouldn't be rusty if for some odd reason they needed/wanted to dress him in the playoffs.

I am not a fan of Simmons. He gets into fights far too often and gets into the penalty box for the team to pay for the power play.
I do think the Leafs need to beef up their defense and get a good goalie, Matt Murray is not up to par at all. Even Woll is better than him.

The! Leafs just lost to the Avalanche 2:1 in shoot out tonite. It was a fast game, both teams were fast. Avalanche was faster. It was a low shooting and low scoring game. Mackinnon scored the winning goal in shoot out. Samsonov was great.

Morgan Reilly scored the only goal for the Leafs and he is a defense man. What the hell those $10 million forward players think they are worth what they are paid? Didn’t even score in shoot out.

Reilly’s best game this year. Not only scoring a goal, he made several great plays both ends. If he and Samsonov play like that in the playoffs, they’ll have a chance.

The Avs only scored one goal in regulation off a lucky bounce. Both goalies and team defence played great and despite the low scoring I thought the game was quite entertaining. A lot of skilled plays by both teams’ great players.

McCabe finally was on the ice when scored on but a lucky bounce of his skate.

Marner played over 29 minutes last game vs Colorado.
Over 4 minutes of it short handed. The most of any forward.
Matthews played almost 27 minutes none on PK.
Nylander 3rd most at over 21 minutes.
All 3 played more than any Defenseman.

I don't mind them - I like data and stats - wasn't aware of the Nylander stat.
It's not that I mind them, I just don't understand their purpose. But it's also not essential that I do either...just asking was all (y)

From this post I take it that wicki is complaining about stats.
I'm deducing since I have wicki on ignore.

Looked at the Leafs stats today and was surprised to see Nylander is only 7 points behind Marner. I thought Marner was way ahead of everyone else.
Also surprised to see Tavares is only a +1. Not sure why.

wicki has zero interest in statistical blather. wicki usually just ignores useless posts about statistical blather, but supershithead seems to be increasing the frequency of spam posts related to statistical blather so wicki was wondering 'WTF!? is going on? Why is supershithead spamming us with statistical blather? Is there some purpose behind the spam wicki doesn't understand?' Then wicki remembered wicki doesn't really give a shit and will now put supershithead on ignore so as not to see the useless statistical blather posts anymore.

Marner gets more ice time as well
When Marner was playing with Tavares earlier this season is +/- suffered.
When Nylander played with Tavares last year his +/- suffered.
Both Marner and Nylander are +15 now.
Matthews at +27 leads the team and is clearly the better defender than Tavares.
Clearly the better offensive player also.
Matthews also leads the entire league in blocked shots for forwards with 83.
All those who have more blocks are defensemen.
Tavares is also slow which doesn't help.
His value is on the PP where his lack of speed is not a factor.

I'm guessing you're not Tavares' agent.

I'm not saying he's a bad player.
He's a point a game player and that alone makes him good.
In a salary cap era though players are evaluated based on their cap hit.
Compare Matthews and Tavares and Matthews is way better.
Compare Marner and Tavares and Marner is way better.
Compare Nylander and Tavares and Nylander is way better.
But you asked why his +/- was only +1 (it is now even after last night's game) and the easy answer is he is not a good defender and doesn't generate enough offense even strength to compensate.
He has 13 PP goals tied with Matthews for the lead and 18 PP assists 1 more than Nylander.
Hence PP is where he's most effective and PP doesn't count for +/-

Ask yourself this would you put out Tavares as a matchup against either McDavid or MacKinnon
Put out Matthews no problem. He can defend and he can also make Mc and Mac defend.

McDavid has a whopping 131 pts yet he's only +12 so clearly he's not a good defender either but he's the best offensive player in the world to compensate. Edmonton has the best PP in the League at 31.5% a whopping 6% better than second place Leafs at 25.6%
Calgary is 6% lower than Leafs and they are 24th. That is how exceptional Oilers PP is with McD. Interestingly TB is 3rd at 25.5%

Rielly is -3 when no other Leaf defenseman is negative because he cannot defend.

I'd like to see Tavares voluntarily pass the captaincy on to either Matthews or Marner.
