Leetch 6.6 million

Gonchar 3.65 million
Sorry. Leetch is looked in at that price for next year too and Gonchar is eligible for arbitration. The rumour is he's asking for $7-8 range and he'll get it too.

Be careful what you wish for. Glad they picked up Leetch, but not at that high of a price. But, as many said, the draft is a crapshoot, and at pick #28 or so, not much to choose from. Leafs now have a glut of defencemen. Gotta think a trade for draft picks is in the cards for the Leafs. Either that, or Pilar, Kaberle for...Pronger? Hey, I wished for the Leetch trade, and look what happened.

The Land of MONEY.
Gonchar will make 7+ million next year. with Leech know that he is going to make 6.6 million.

Leech will play with leafs next year. There will not be a lockout. Nobody wants to lose money. They will piss and moan at eachother than finally make a deal.

The owners are to blame for all the high salaries. They both should shut up and play. NHLPA and the owners should smarten up and start paying players for results. They should have a bonus structure built into there contracts.

Some players are worth there salary and some are not but only the GM's and the Owners can determine that. If they pay a crappy player 5 million, the next player who is better will say i'am better than him pay me more. That's business and owners have to either draw the line in the sand together or out bid eachother.

I've had to much wine tonight, sorry for the rambling.

I'm a true Hockey Fan. yes i'm a leafs fan. i was raised in Toronto.

Anyone raised and born in Toronto who is not a Leafs fan is a Traiter in my Books. If you were born in Montreal and moved to Toronto you can be a canadiens fan.

But if you were born and raised in Toronto and a Canadiens or anyother teams fan, YOU ARE A TRAITER and should be BANNED from this city.

Go Leafs Go,

Yeah I was thinking the same thing yy.

I can see where the leafs are going: more for experience than anything else. No flash in the pans who wilt under pressure, they may not shine like the stars, but digging away, game after game, that wins the game everytime.

... The Leafs could have gotten Gonchar ...

They didn't have to give away their "A" list kids such as ... Antropov
For what the Leafs gave up, I would have given that up AND thrown in Antropov, for Gonchar.

I think that would have been fine by me.

I don't think this trade is really all that bad for the leafs. leetch will bring 20 to 25 minutes of ice time a night to the leafs. that makes mccabe, kaberle, klee and leetch the top four and then they can rotate between pilar, berg, marchment (and belak?) for the final two pairings. leetch also provides a point on the power play and an ability to move the puck very well.

i personally don't mind losing kondratiev or immonen compared to the likes of steen, stajan or coliacovo.

It's seldom that a Leafs team has a legitimate, rather than a hopeful, shot at The Cup. This may be the last shot for the current group. Worth the risk, might not be enough.

On the flip side, Leetch is better then Berg,

and other Leafs on the blueline, so it is an improvement.

I'm just mad Gonchar went for nothing.
Firstly, who isn't better than Berg.

Secondly, Leetch isn't better than McCabe or Kaberle,

Thirdly, why the f*ck did they give up more (or less) for Leetch than Gonchar.

The only thing I can think of, is that Leetch (American?) wouldn't mind staying here, or the future considerations is tied to what he does next season.

I personally think the Leafs got a pretty good trade with Brian Leetch. If you take a look at his numbers in the playoffs (when the Rangers did make the playoffs), they werent half bad. So maybe he can add some good offense to the blue line. Hopefully, he still has some energy within him when we make the playoffs this season. I do believe Toronto will make the Stanley cup finals and hopefully win. GO LEAFS GO!!

there wont be hockey for a year or two. they made a good trade and gave up shit. the leafs cant draft worth shit anyways and giving up these two nobodys was a gift for them. the draft picks mean nothi8ng when you cant pick your nose let alone some prspects.

good trade to try and win before the strike hits.

Leafs got Leetched

Gonchar goes for one prospect and a 1st and 2nd, Leetch for two prospects and a first and a second, JFJ overpayed bigtime
The Leafs got Leetched alright! JFJ panicked right after Bruins announced getting Gonchar & upped the players to Sather to seal a deal. If JFJ didn't & lost Leetch to another team, the media would've run him outta town as inexperienced manager, etc. I think the Leafs were waiting out McPhee since last week (Gonchar flu - no game action), but as Quinn said a couple days ago, Leetch was plan B. So Fergie pulled the trigger right away. I would've given Steen who'll probably only be a two-way centre/forward and kept the 1st rounder.

I like Max K. He can move the puck, has the poise & he's ready to play at NHL level (just like when Kaberle first started out) & has Russian hockey sense. He's the sleeper. Who is that Finn guy? Decent goal stats in Finnish league. I hope turns out to be a softy. Sather's hoping he's got a future Kurri. A 1st Rounder plus a 2nd Rounder is just too much!!!

If we win the Cup, Leetch will look like the decider. If we don't make it to Finals and Max K. turns out to be a future star, we crapped out again. But we had to do a deal.

from what i heard on talk radio tonight, the gonchar to the leafs deal had been dead since saturday, probably because the cap's figured the leafs were desperate for gonchar and would give up whatever the caps asked for.

The fact of the matter is that if ferguson didn't make a trade he would be blasted for sitting on his hands, and when he makes a trade everyone thinks he gave up too much, it doesn't seem that the guy can win either way. As far as getting lindros, who really wants him? He's when shot away from a complete scrambled brain and may not even be able to return this season. that would truly be a dumb trade.

Not sure just what is wrong with a 'two-way centre/forward'. Isn't that what Steve Yzerman is?

Then he'll be disappointed when he finds out he's got a future Hoglund.

Ridiculous move..........unless you're a Ranger fan. What's next? Trading Stajan and Ponikarovsky for Simon and Barnaby? LOL

I like this deal.............

Fergie keeps our blue-chippers.
Only gives up mid level prospects.
Gets a future Hall of Famer with a Stanley Cup ring who'll elevate the level of play of everyone on the ice with him. Leetch has the reputation of being a fitness guru a la Gary Roberts so his age doesn't concern me in the slightest. In the Leaf Nation the future is now!
As far as the draft goes I'll leave you with a quote from the one and only Silver Fox.........Mr. Cliff Fletcher. When asked about giving up draft picks around the time of the Gilmour trade he replied..................."Draft Schmaft".
Exactly!

huh??? What are you smoking? a -5 puts leetch in the very bottom of the league??? He's certainly not even the lowest rated on his team, and a lot better than Gonchar (at -20)....

Look it up, Bud. There are only 4 Rangers who have a worse plus minus than Leetch. Get your bloody facts straight, Bucko.

http://www.newyorkrangers.com/faceoff/pstats.asp

In terms of where he ranks in the League, try page 16 of the stats list, ranking 654th ..... hehehe.

Housley was 39 and done last year. (the Leafs knew it was a gamble and that is why they didn't give up anything to get him)
Leetch is far from done.
Just watch.
