The problem with Socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
Another one of those silly aphorisms that Ronald Reagan loved to recite.
When I pay my taxes I regard the revenues collected by the government as collectively OUR money.
But then the billionaires hate paying taxes, don't they? They expect "other people" to pay for their services.

Agreed, we pay taxes for roads, cops, schools, health care and social services.
The skoobs of this world want to be freeloaders, not pay for anything public and then blame others when it goes to crap.

They can continue to be the buyers and distributors...leave retail to the public sector.
They charge a lot of taxes because they have a lot of greedy public sector unions mouths to feed. No reason why it should be taxed so high.

Also no reason why they have to build luxury palaces as stores and over-pay employees.

if Johnny wants to drop out of school and not invest in himself, we shouldn't reward that with a charitable well paying job, great benefits and good pension. And still have to hear Johnny whine about how bad he has it every few years.
As LCBO is not like nurses, teachers, and other critical state employees I tend to agree with you. In Quebec, the SAQ opened up wine selling in supermarkets. Thinking it would cut their cost and that they would remain profitable. But then they had to face the power of greedy Loblaws and other big chain owner and they cut down on their full privatization plan. They realized long run they would lose the battle... Thus indeed lose profitable money making into the hands of greedy capitalists...

What are the differences between a cashier or people stocking shelves at Walmart, loblaws, dollars store versus LCBO? To me they have the same level of skills set. Why getting paid so much more with much better benefits?

Have you ever had a job?
Yeah...when I was 16...bagging groceries at a local market. I thought I deserved $1 million per year, stock options, benefits and a pension.
I thought that was fair.
Apparently everyone else didn't think it was fair.

No, skoob.
Look at Denmark.

The problem with capitalism is that its modelled on perpetual growth.
Its modelled on cancer.
The problem with Socialism is that it leads to Communism...every time.

I don't see anyone rushing to immigrate to Norway do you?

Why would you call them underachievers when they send Ontario $2.5 billion a year?
Last I checked, customers who spend money and pay taxes are sending money to Ontario.
You think that's because Johhny scanned the item and took your money?

It was Thatcher not Reagan. But we're not here to evaluate your knowledge in history.

When I pay my taxes I expect the services they are paying for to be available and not taken away from me and used as a bargaining chip because someone feels they are entitled to more compensation and "job security".

Billionaires pay more taxes than most people. They actually create jobs and drive innovation and the economy so that taxes can be generated.
Blaming the rich is a tired tactic and a typically a ploy used by the left to convince people who to blame for their own under-achieving lives.

It's always easier to blame someone else rather than taking accountability and investing in yourself right?

If the government controls the import and distribution, they can control the private sector retailers.
Competition also serves as a control.

Alcohol is a commodity product. People will buy it where they can get a better deal. If a particular retailer wants to sell it for more, they will not be doing much business. That's how the free market works.

Two pages in, and no one has addressed the problem at hand

All liquor stores will be closed for two weeks!

Leave it to TERB to ignore the important issues.
Yes...that's the "being held hostage until demands are met" part of the program.

You think the people who work at those stores for minimum wage won't end up at food banks to get by?
Why do you think that's better?

This is on Dofo.
Its his drive to privatize the LCBO that's at the heart of the first strike in LCBO history.

Paying people well is different than rewarding greedy, under-achievers, who are never happy regardless, and just want more and more, and expect everyone else to pay for the lifestyle they believe they are entitled to.
sounds like you are describing ultra rich captains of industry.. Obscene inequality created by compliant right wing govts who, for decades have widened the gap to placate their rich donors..and only giving false hope to the great unwashed every 4 years, during a months long election cycle....and just as quickly returning to do the bidding of Big Pharma, Big Oil...Big this and Big that...its depressing

I just came back from the Big L. I don't have enough for 2 weeks, but that's OK.

I just thought of something. Will this change anything if you bring some booze back from the US? My guess would be "no" but I'm no expert.

I rushed over to my nearby LCBO. A cop car and 2 officers were by the front door. Store was packed with people lining up to but booze before midnight. Staff was friendly, helped me to pick a nice bottle of Calif Pinot Noir. I whiz them the best negotiating with Fog Ford government.

The people you describe as 'greedy, under-achievers' were also deemed 'essential workers' by your hero DoFo.
Why do you think we shouldn't pay 'essential workers' enough to cover food and housing if they work full time?

What is "fair pay"?
Should taxpayers be punished because the government is printing money?

So taxpayers need to pay public employees more, because the people that are responsible for public employees are driving up inflation?
Make that make sense please.
Do taxpayers pay for the LCBO?? I suggest you stop shopping at the LCBO and show those damn union workers you're NOT GOING TO TAKE IT anymore. LMAO

We have enough taxes to pay for necessities...unionized LCBO workers are not one of them.
