Partners in the law firm make all the money. Some do nothing at all and collect a pay check. Some lawyers contract out for 6-12 months at municipal courts as prosecutors with no guarantee of work after the contract is over.

I am too young to know or even to have met Trudeau the Sr. , but I have relatives that knew him. After he was Prime Minister, he got a gig by allowing a law firm to put his name on the plaque out front. If the weather was nice he would walk 10-12 minutes to the law office downtown from his home on Pine Avenue in Montreal.
