Lagavulin's thread

Kyra Graves a.k.a Kyra_to

Why thank you, did you know that January 22 is
•National Blonde Brownie Day
•Mini Unit Study - Cats

I thought I'd raise a glass of Champagne to celebrate (and cheers with one of my favorite ladies - Miss Madison, thanks for spending such an important day with me Maddy!)

BTW - Jan. 23 is a very important day as well and I will celebrate it with my Size 9's, a nice card and some traditional apple. Who will be the lady of the day?

January 23
•Handwriting Day
•National Pie Day
•Measure Your Feet Day

Living in the moment
Excellent choice btw, hopefully everyone took a few moments to follow the link. Kudos to you for taking a moment to bring her story to the attention of others. :)
may I echo those sentiments ...

h-m-m-m I like this thread. Refreshingly positive and upbeat (as opposed to some others I've visited lately; nasty bits of ego-business) Thanks Lagavulin ... do you mind if hang out for a while?

Lagavulin, I have a few thoughts about this thread, firstly I must commend you on the best choice of scotch. Drinking it straight with each mouthfull the taste changes 4-5 times as it hits different taste buds. Truely something to be experienced.

As far as the thread goes this is really confusing, not sure what the topic is can you help with a theme. I also agree there's many hot ladies pictures here. The stories are somewhat disturbing though.

And lastly for today, I see that the Canadian Opera Company is about to announce their schedule for 2010/11 in just a few moments.

http://twitter.com/CanadianOpera

Have to get out out the daytimer and start blocking off dates. (I do not like going to work the next morning, it interferes with my attendance at the after parties)
Hmmm... you don't by chance work for the TTC do you? Just asking!! :)

Also, post #38 by antaeus was in reference to your post #2... alluding to Madonna having someone kidnap another child for her to adopt.

Additionally, I think you may have to buy some more furmiture soon, as this thread seems to be expanding and you can't have all the visitors just loitering around drinking whiskey without a suitably comfortable lounge area..

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

If Part of the theme of Lagavulin's thread is to honour outstanding women then Dr Nancy Olivieri deserves to be acclaimed.

In 2001, as Director of Research at Sick Kids Hospital, she broke a confidentiality agreement with Apotex when she published a report critical of Deferiprone. It is a beta drug used in the treatment of Thalessemia; a hemoglobin disease who's by-products are conventional and sickle-cell anemia.

Hero of the Day

Brian McKeever

Blind skier makes Olympics history

January 22, 2010 Daniel Girard
Brian McKeever has made the team – and history.
The 30-year-old cross country skier from Canmore, Alta., who is legally blind, was one of six men and five women named to the Canadian Olympic team Friday, making him the first athlete to compete in both the Winter Games and the Paralympics.
He’ll also be the first Canadian – winter or summer – to do so in the same year.
McKeever, who will race in the 50-kilometre event, won the Canadian trials last month.
A winner of seven medals at the Paralympics in Salt Lake City and Turin, McKeever has about 10 per cent vision, all of it peripheral, due to Stargardt’s disease, an inherited form of macular degeneration that’s also claimed the sight of his father, Bill.
Calling the Paralympics “the Olympic Games for people with disabilities,” McKeever said he hopes his story shows people the gap between the two events isn’t that large.
“Just because somebody has a disability doesn’t mean they are not training hard or are (not) extremely fit,” he said in a statement. “I think the Paralympics is a great product.
“We have something worth watching and I hope my story will bring more attention to that.”
The Olympics begin in Vancouver Feb. 12. The Paralympics start March 12.
McKeever, who competes in the Paralympics guided by his older brother, Robin, a member of the 1998 Canadian Olympic team that went to Nagano, Japan, tries to follow a competitor in able-bodied events, using his peripheral vision to watch their line and turns.
“This is truly one of the most talented Olympic teams Canada has ever assembled, which is not only a testament to the continued strength and growth of the national program but also demonstrates what an incredible athlete Brian is and the enormity of his accomplishment,” said Tom Holland of Cross Country Canada.
McKeever is scheduled to compete in five events at the Paralympics.

To head off any controversy I give the term SP a broad meaning, i.e. service provider.

Beautiful Woman of the Day

Grace Kelly

I would love to tell you a true life story about this most wonderful woman, but I would certainly end up outing myself. To quote part of her eulogy given by Jimmy Stuart

"You know, I just love Grace Kelly. Not because she was a princess, not because she was an actress, not because she was my friend, but because she was just about the nicest lady I ever met. Grace brought into my life as she brought into yours, a soft, warm light every time I saw her, and every time I saw her was a holiday of its own. No question, I'll miss her, we'll all miss her, God bless you, Princess Grace."

Is it safe to assume that Rogers, Bell and other resellers will not be appearing as SP of the day anytime soon due to the many negative reviews on the board or do you have a different selection process for your thread? ;)

LOL .... its funny you should mention Ted Rogers.
Once upon a time I was hired regarding a matter with Rogers.
After considerable acrimony all the way around with some senior people, Ted got involved.
They got there eye off the ball and lost sight of what had happened. They were more worried about repercussions from Ted then a bad deal.
My guys ended up with more than we were initially seeking from when we started negotiations some two years previously.
So yes, I SCREWED TED ROGERS. But since I was the one who was paid, it would be wrong to give a review.

But just between you and me, he wasn't that good, and certainly would never be SP of the day. Although he screwed a lot of people for money, the service was terrible.
