Yeah license plate on a stolen vehicle. You would need that to find said stolen vehicle. So where you find the stolen vehicle, you'd find the thief. Try it. It is called logic.
The license plate would be registered to the address of the vehicle owner. So you're saying the thief would have driven to the vehicle owners house and stayed there to be apprehended?

You do realize the license plate doesn't actually tell you where the car is. Do I really have to explain this to someone, I guess so lmao.

Letting the thief go runs the risk that he/her could hurt or kill someone before he/her could be later apprehended.

So when someone notes a license plate, that is what you think they do? Go to the registered owners house?

Ever heard of police putting out a BOLO on the vehicle to find the perp? CCTV cameras etc to find the vehicle?

Wow it's just that easy... it's a wonder how so many cars get stolen and are never recovered.

The endless manpower and resources available to police services for petty criminals.

On top of that, stolen cars often get ditched and the perp is never caught. Hmm.

Id much rather have an unrecovered stolen car than a dead person. Even if it was my own car. And in this case the car was also totaled. Not to mention how incredibly stupid and dangerous shooting someone dead while they are driving really is. What if the car ploughed through pedestrians? A baby in a stroller? Or what if the car hadnt stopped and ploughed through the building and caught fire inside? What about the property damage?

This was an incredibly stupid, dangerous and downright unnecessary shooting.

Are there things the cops could have done before hand to maybe assist in securing the vehicle - yes

Once the guy took off with the officer in the back, the stakes changed and I don’t think there was any other immediate way to stop the man. Which would have to be done because it is legitimate for the cop of feel his life was in danger.

Seeing as the guy was asleep and cops have been known to block in cars, with their cop cars, and many cops seem to turn up to arrests once they get wind of it, why not block his exit with cop cars one in front and one behind. And it the situation looks that dangerous. Pull up on either side of his car with two more cop cars so he is completely blocked in on all sides . They could then get out of their cars and stand safely back or turn on their sirens to wake him up. See how he gets out of that situation. ?

Police incompetence leading to what will be determined as a justified shooting, again. Too often the moment of the incident, the shooting seems like a reasonable choice but the choices that led to there are horrible.

Also pretty stupid for a passenger in a car to shoot the driver as it is in motion. I would think that being in the backseat of a car being driven would be less dangerous than being in the backseat of a car with a dead driver. Not to mention the threat to pedestrians from a driverless car.

What should have happened:
- see the driver is sleeping
- block car in
- knock on window and wake the guy up
- put him in cuffs

Would have been the end of the story.

edit: watching the full vid makes me think this cop will meet his own set of handcuffs. Driver was absolutely zero threat to the cop at the time other than the cop might have to walk back to his car.

The cop was a moron. The guy just woke up. Even I take a few seconds to figure out who i am and my purpose on earth. If I'm in the car and the thief takes off - the last thing I'm doing is shooting four bullets in the back so the car is now completely out of control. The cop - after putting 4 bullets in his back - is screaming at the thief to stop the car. I really think the cop was completely panicked and unable to make rational decisions. Excluding the thief, this cop was a danger to the public (pedestrians could have been killed) and his fellow officers.

Exactly he was screaming "Dont move!!!". He is dead you fuckin idiot! lol.

This is why I say that these assholes are not trained enough to handle even the slightest provocative situation.
