I was a HUGE Beatles fan growing up in the late 70's early 80's. They helped me get through my adolescence without a doubt.
John was my favourite Beatle because he was the smart one (and the smart ass too) and I identified with him. I will never forget when I heard the news that he was murdered, I was in Grade 10 at the time and at the height of my Beatle craze. I remember not thinking it was for real. At the time, I was all of 15 and I remember thinking also that 40 was kind of old. But now I'm older than when John was shot to death and 40 seems so damn young to die.
As to my favourite Lennon song, there were Lennon Beatle songs and there were McCartney Beatle songs, then there were Lennon solo songs. With the exception of a few of his solo songs, I still think of Lennon's best stuff being when he was in the Beatles.
"In my Life" comes to mind as one of the most haunting of Lennon songs.

Imagine as solo, as well as Working Class Hero (was John really a working class hero?)
Anyway, I am still a huge Beatles fan and I often daydream about if John had not been shot - would the Beatles have ever reunited?
Sadly it was not to be.

Yep, I still don't get the hype with the Beatles though? They really didn't change anything (musically). If you listen to the music it is kinda washed out. Imo Cream were revolutionary. Don't mean to offend anyone jmo.
R U serious, or just being facetious? The Beatles didn't change anything? You obviously are too young to understand. Right after Presley, the Beatles completely changed music for the new generation, completely revolutionary.
As for Cream, there would be no Cream if the Beatles didn't change society's thinking about music. Don't get me wrong, I like Cream, but they're not even a speck on the world map when it comes to revolutionizing music.
Umm I've been playing since I was six and yes I completely understand music (probably better that you!) What I said is I don't understand. I think there are other far more influential bands out there. Their music to "us" as a generation is not nearly as influential as say Zeppelin or Cream etc.

The albums Rubber Sould and Revolver were revolutionary....no one did that kind of stuff then (or even now). Sgt. Peppers blew the lid wide open. Cream were great, but still very blues based, not close to the innovations that the Beatles were doing.

I'm actually with you (to a degree) on this Hadrian... They had some good songs sure, and I went through a Beatles "stage" when I was about 14 years old... but meh.

I was quite young as well, but I knew who the beatles were. I also knew about the hoax where they made the world believe that Paul McCartney was dead. So when I heard the news I immidietly thought it was a hoax. I remember first hearing the news on CTV at 11:00 with Lloyd Robertson ( gee, Lloyd he been there all those years )
Ok look. This is insane! If you look at scale for example: 3/4 drop tune 1/2's syncs etc....elements that are essential to todays music, it isn't the Beatles that started that it was Cream. There is nothing of note that the Beatles contributed in todays music....there just isn't. Shit show me an example?
You are correct Mr. President Cream came after.......and were far more influential to music scene than were the Beatles!

Never the less, it's not without merrit with Page.
I'm old enough to remember, but it didn't really impact me. 'Starting Over' was played ad nauseum on the radio which is a crappy remembrance of his music.
Um. Authentic musicians appreciate many influences. To say there is nothing of note that the Beatles contibuted is just ignorant. PS. I'm using the word ignorant vs. stupid as I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. If you read your musical history, many of the early British bands were influenced by American blues, however it was The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan that had the most profound influence on all the music being made at that time.
Example: Day Tripper - first use of feedback
Norwegian Wood- first use of sitar
Many instances of combining different time signatures in one song
ie. I Me Mine, Yer Blues
Check some documentaries on how the Beatles music influenced the fall of the Soviet Union.
PS. I love Zepelin and Cream as well.....and although influencial....not nearly as much as the Beatles.
PPS. What does scale have to do with drop tune?? Stones were doing that long time ago.

Why don't you start another tread about Cream, and or your other influences and leave this one alone to those who happen to think highly of John Lennon.
