I think it would be a good idea if the Blue Jays allowed Max Scherzer to fly home between starts to be with his family, until the end of the school year. It's not as if they'd use him as a pinch runner in an extra innings game. He could do a private podcast during games to be on the bench, in spirit. I think they would get more out of him that way.
Oops, I didn't realize this was a road game. The reasons why they would call a rain out more than a day in advance: It's their home opener, and Friday was originally scheduled as an off day. A better weather forecast and playing the home opener on a Holiday can mean many thousands of additional people in attendance. It's tough when there are two teams in your city, the other one is beloved, win or lose, and YOUR stadium is in 'the baddest part of town '
Heineman was also to blame, thrown at 3rd with 2 outs, airmails toss to Clement at 3rd that led to 2 unearned runs

Heneman was also the goat in yesterday's game when he made bad throw to first with 2 outs. That out would have won the game.

Brandon Valenzuela is expected to be called up from Buffalo to replace Kirk. He's an excellent defensive catcher. He was acquired from the San Diego Padres at the 2025 deadline for Will Wagner.
Valenzuela has no Major League experience. He's already on the 40 man roster.

Just me or have the Jays had more injury bad luck than they had most of last season. I count 4 SP injured and now Kirk too. Ugh.
I predicted the the Jays would finish 3rd in the AL East this year. I thought that too many of their players exceeded their expected level of performance all at the same time last season. If you read through the 2025 thread, I said several times that I thought they would have been better off in the long term to have traded Vlad Guerrero rather than give him, essentially, a lifetime deal.
It's still really early, but being 4-4 against three of the worst teams in the Majors is ominous. I'm wary of the age and contract status of the key players on the roster, and the lack of ready for prime time talent in the minors. I think they made excellent off season moves.
The Leafs being eliminated from the NHL playoffs was the best possible scenario for the Jays as far as early season attendance is concerned. If the season is a write-off six weeks from now, however, the bandwagon fans who don't usually follow baseball might find other things to do in the summer. If interest wanes, Rogers might be reluctant to continue spending like the Yankees, Dodgers and Mets.
This is disastrous for the Jays, I've said all along that Captain Kirk is their MVP. Yesterday we found out. He going to be out for a month.

Now, now, Jays fans. Let's keep the temptation to turn into yourselves into entitled Yankees-type fans at bay. Born and raised in the NYC precincts, and all I can say is Yankees fans view every one of the 162 games of the regular season as the Super Bowl. World Cup final, and every final round Game 7 you can think off all rolled up into one. And the season is a worthless failure if they don't win the World Series. Bitter, bitter, bitter. I could write a sociological treatise on Yankees fans. So take a deep breath. Stop dissecting every pitch, every at-bat, every manager move. Sports is not a zero-sum game. Sports is about getting there, wherever that is; the process of being the best athlete, the best team you can be on any given day, day after day. That's enough to appreciate and enjoy. And an absolute marvel when out of thin air all the gears fit and mesh , as they did last October for the Jays.

Someone, possibly Philip, is wondering why Lazardo would be sent down after pitching 4 scoreless innings. The reason is because he just pitched four innings. He wouldn't be available again for a few days, so they bring in someone else in the meantime. This is actually a great strategy, as it effectively extends the 26 man active roster. Voth and/ or Mantiply may well be back in chicken wing town in a couple of days. A team can only do this with players on the 40 man roster who have remaining options. Lazardo might come and go many times this season.
