Vladdy gets a time out for a bad game yesterday. Whatever faults John Schneider may have, he's not afraid to be unpopular for the good of the team.

Someone take the mask of Davis Schneider, that's Ken Griffey Jr under there.

What an embarrassment display of hitting, with exception of Bo, they all try to pull the ball. Fire all hitting coaches and hire Dante. All teams know this and pitch them away for swing and misses. Vladdy swung and struck out on a pitch that was 6 inches off the plate.
Vlad Senior didn't exactly have a reputation for only swinging at pitches in the strike zone.

It might have been George Bell who first said "Nobody walks off the island", with reference to Dominican baseball players.

Schneider for Ohtani, but LA will have to throw in a top prospect. 😊
lol I wonder if Ross Atkins planned for this guy to be a secret weapon up his sleeve so therefore had a lacklustre trade deadline for offensive help…. Or is this just a total fluke?

If you ask Ross, it was planned.

Here are Davis Schneider's game logs for 2023.

He has unremarkable statistics for 2017-19 and 2021-22, (there were no minor league seasons in 2020).

This year at Buffalo, he was batting .193 on April 29, but he's been steadily improving since, including a .348 batting average for July games. He has 21 HRs, 64 RBIs, .275 Ave and .969 OPS for the year, (309 At Bats).

This is a case of promoting the 'hot hand', as opposed to the top prospect, based on potential. I wouldn't expect him to continue to hit .692 in The Show, but if he does well during the rest of this year, Cavan Biggio may likely not be offered a contract this off season. Schneider's 24, so he hasn't necessarily reached his peak potential yet. He probably made some hitting adjustment just before May 1, if his success isn't fuelled by Human Growth Hormone.

I’m totally up and down with Biggio, and I think many of us are up and down with him. I like his versatility. I keep telling myself one day,, “maybe if he had more bats he could be better” And then a week later I’m thinking he’s useless. So i don’t even know how to think about him anymore. Are we hindering his development by not playing him enough? He’s 28 is there even anything more to see?

Philip, Biggio is eligible for Salary Arbitration for the first time in 2024. Teams can live with a guy with his production when he doesn't cost much. There's always the possibility that a player like him will have a performance spike, after a few years' of experience playing part time. Once he has enough PT to make bigger money, teams think realistically about having a new guy come in, and post the same mediocre numbers or better for the minimum wage.

HGH notwithstanding, Davis Schneider is now the permanent 2b for the remainder of the season.

There is a tinge of darkness in Schneider's saga. He wears his old high school glove when fielding, inscribed with the name Vuk on it. That's in regard to his former coach John Vukovic, who died from cancer in 2007. He's one of a number of former Phillies who died of cancer most prominent among them in 1980 WS closer Tug McGraw and catcher Darren Daulton. Old Veterans Stadium was built on contaminated land, could be a massive scandal for the city of Philadelphia. Citizen's Bank Park opened in 2004.

For those that complain about crime, there is a horrific difference between Kensington St in Toronto as opposed to Philly.

Depending on his contract situation, of which I'm not sure, I'd be inclined to get rid of Espinal before Biggio. Biggio's a lefty and can play both infield and outfield. Espinal can play 2nd, SS and 3rd. Neither one hits for average but Biggio has a little more pop in his bat.

in 2016, we took a family vacation to Philadelphia. I hired a Rocky Balboa impersonator to take us to all the filming scenes of the first two Rocky movies. Most of the filming scenes were in Kensington. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Like a neighbourhood radius of Skid Row, except with people high out of their minds,

Biggio will almost certainly be a free agent this winter and is likely done with the Jays in my view.

I can’t see the Jays providing him with the minimum arbitration offer of 3.2 million he is entitled to this off-season.

Last year they settled on 2.8 million but he was only a year or two removed from being fairly decent.

With another bad year at this point I can’t see a similar offer being made.

Of course they can still bring him back in free agency but I suspect he will give it a try with somebody new.

I am flipping my lid in preparation about Saturday. I’m turning this into an event in my house lol. I have had August 12th in my calendar for many months. Since it was first announced, I think in February or something like that. Guys, Jose Bautista is going to the level of excellence, and there will be a ceremony and speech before Saturday’s game. I’m choking up just thinking about it.

Another nail biter tonight. I absolutely hate when pitchers get ahead in the count and instead of going after the batter, they start nibbling and before you know it, it's a 3-2 count. Good call by Walker to come out and got Hicks to throw those 100mph strikes.

Player of the game had to be Biggio with that homer in the 8th and great solo double play in the bottom half. But as Mo said, for the sake of saving a few million off the payroll, who knows what will happen?

Biggio has a little more pop in his bat.

Early report was a knee contusion for Ryu, but it looked like he's gonna miss some time. He was in lots of pain and needed help to get down those few stairs.

Blair and Barker were skeptical of the report after the game.
