The mighty Senators will suck for as long as their current GM is not fired.
Since you brought it up, how did he keep his job ? I thought for sure he was next after the coach was let go.
Giving Speeza $49 mil over seven years, a hit of $7 per season.

couldn't agree with you more. That whole organization is a joke from their jackss captain all the way to their upper management. That douchebag on here before was defending them so much until the season started LOL.
The regular season is over and the we are well into the playoffs and the trolls come out to play I see.

I got news for you Burke would take that ''jackass captain'' in a heartbeat on ability alone.

Oracle you maybe right and the fit would be perfect with a guy like Kessel ( Spezza has played with guys like Heatly ) although would these two teams actually make a trade like this ... Unlike the dumb Raptors who traded Carter to a team within their division and it came back to bite them in the ass , if the Senators would ever trade this guy I don't think they would not want him in their own conference . Would they ??

Trade proposal which I read some where

With Ottawa in a rebuild and Toronto most likely fighting for a playoff position I think this trade could work for both teams:

To Toronto:
Jason Spezza (keep in mind his salary of 7M for the next 4 seasons, a burden on any team)
Project player or solid 3rd liner (Wiercioch/Neil)

To Ottawa:
Joe Colborne (talent project centre, standing @ 6'5. Could become a great #1 with most believing he will becoming a solid #2)
1st Round Pick 2012 (Top 10 protected, but in a VERY deep draft)
2nd Round Pick 2011
Tyler Bozak
Alfie is a little long in the tooth right now and definitely not worth what he's making but he's been a helluva player for the Sens over his career both on and off the ice.

If he was coming in around half what he is making presently then a lot of teams would take a look at him. He tried to play through a herniated disk this past year but in the end had to shut it down

He was a sixth round pick I believe and a good one at that.

Now for your proposed trade. Do we have to take Bozak? That dude can't check his hat.

Spezza is so up and down and gets hurt a fair bit as well. An enigma for sure but I agree I think he would be a perfect fit on the Leafs and might need a change of scenery.

Colborne is a work in progress and draft pics outside the top ten are crap shoots most times. Plus would these two rivals really try to strengthen each other? You who ever loses the trade would mostly be fired. Would Burke be willing to risk that?

So I am reading thee above and have come to the conclusion that Guyroch, despite what he claims, is no Leaf fan.
Remember this is the guy who has been whining for two years now about giving up two first round picks for Kessel.
Now he thinks it is a great idea to trade away Colborne and a first round pick for ... Speeza .... for a $7mil per season Speeza.

As for Capt Clown, maybe 10 years ago Burke would have listened, but not now, not after the Cup final puck fiasco.

Not that guy needs me to speak for him and I may be wrong, but all he said was that "he read about this proposal". He never offered an opinion one way or the other.

The Senaturds will probably need Spezzas salary to make the cap min
You really don't know much about hockey do you ?

The Senators already have $43,258,334 committed to 15 players for next year.

Try to be a little better informed for your next commentary.

Are their more teams then normal with lots of cap space this year? Seems like it but I could be wrong.

I think there are more teams than normal with lots of cap space (I don't have prior season numbers easily available).
Fifteen teams have close to, or more than $20,000,000 in space available (subject to next year's cap number).
Conversely, there are a few teams tight up against the cap, even before signing any new players.

The U.F.A. list isn't that spectacular either, someone is going to way overpay a few players this summer.

Glen Sather, I'm looking at you ! :eyebrows:

Just remember at this time of year there are a few teams with less then a full team signed. Check out individual team lists.

For instance if you just look at the bottom line the Leaf page says they will have about 21 million to spend. Upon closer look you see they have only 14 players signed for next season and that is not including Schenn and Reimer who need to be resigned ASAP.

its going to a long season in Senaturd land as no free agents will sign there - look at the way they treat their star players like Heatley, no wonder he wanted out!

I'm curious, how did the Senators (not Senaturd) mistreat Dany Heatley ?

I'm a Maple Leaf fan, but from my viewpoint, Ottawa, both the city, and the team, welcomed him with open arms, giving him a fresh start that he sorely needed.

He played consistently on the top line, played the power play and killed penalties.

He apparently had some issues with Cory Clouston, but most people have issues with their boss now and then.
