he can record me with out being in my personal space. if someone is following you around that is the problem not the camera.
Looks like you've missed the point if you feel that way. Let me quote myself from my original post for you: " I started thinking to myself back then.. 'it's gonna get alot worse once most of these phone have cameras in them..' And lo and behold shit has hit the fan"
In other words the smart phone IS the problem cause people are using all the extra features they come with now (mostly the camera feature) as an 'excuse' to do what they didn't have or need to do before phones had those features..

everyone has always had the right to record anything in public where there is no expectation of privacy. just because people have more accesss to exercise this right doesnt mean that it is the downfall of society. nothing is hitting the fan and your rant is dumb.

i took my mother out for dinner last night for a celebration of sorts and i witnessed a couple sitting staring at their phones, the couple they were waiting for showed up and sat down with little acknowledgment and sat in silence while the couple that invited them out stared phones. finally the second couple to arrive started talking among themselves as the first couple couldn't out their phones down.
i will say it again. the zombie apocalypse is upon us.

I agree that it is rude to focus on a mobile device when in a social setting with people.
However, why is it OK to sit in a bar and watch the TV behind your partner?
Generally speaking, the rudeness is not caused by the smartphone or tablet...it's caused by rude people. The new technology merely provides additional opportunities to be rude. But for the truly antisocial, opportunities can be come by in other ways.
The problem is, however, what to do when the inane propaganda that comes across the smartphone is truly more interesting than most of the people at your table?

In the past many would have walked away. Hell at least they took the time to film it(and I hope call police).
Now I'm no keyboard warrior. But i would like to think I would have at least tried to yell to distract the knife guy so the person could get away. But I have to admit I wouldn't throw myself into it unarmed and hope for the best.
