I didn't know that he wrote the Sam and Dave hits Soul Man and Hold On, I'm coming. The article asks why there's no biography of him.
Perhaps it was because his later life was so shambolic. He fell in with Scientology, they took his money and took him off his heart medication. He died of a stroke in 2008. His children are fighting to recover his estate but it may be a lost cause.
