The Democrats are arguing for health care funding.
everyone knows the COVID subsidies for Obamacare have to be negotiated, they expire at the end of 2025. That’s one of the issues that will be negotiated during a CR. Everyone knows this. They’ve also bundled NPR/PBS funding and removing some of the Medicare cost savings from the BBB and allowances for illegal immigrant healthcare costs.

The real reason this is happening is that Chuck is under assault from his left wing and he’s 30% behind AOC in NY approval. She could easily take his senate seat in the next election. He’s cosplaying as tough guy. Consider NYC is about to elect a communist Mayor - his concerns are valid. Ironically he’s always argued against closing the government as it never works. The big fumble here is much of the power of the purse now rests with the executive branch as Congress has not passed a budget. Trump could legally fire a large portion of Federal employees as their funding isn’t in a budget.

republicans can rarely tell when the government is closed, they still collect taxes. IMG_3097.jpeg IMG_3143.jpeg

Working is different. There are, like the USA, regional income taxes as well. If you work for someone, they will have to report it.

Btw, you will want to take a closer look at living in the CN Tower area. It can be very noisy, lots of traffic, lack of local services(grocery, various services) because it's all about servicing the Dome, ACC and tourism. Although St Lawrence Market is close enough and awesome.

If you want a bit quieter, lakeside with paths, decent transit, and good services walkability, look into all the condos around Lakeshore Blvd and Parklawn Rd.
I'm working for a company in the USA. canada and USA have a tax treaty so I wont be doubled taxed (to my understanding)

as far as location, all of which you mentioned is a concern and thank you for bringing light to the matter. I'll have to do more research.

Buddy, no.

No one is providing health care for illegal immigrants.

I recommended that area but it will obviously depend on what you want in a neighborhood. I second good area would be in the Yonge St/Eglinton Ave area.

Areas to avoid are anything downtown east of Yonge St. Most of Northwest Toronto . The Subway line east of Danforth Station or west of Christie until you get to Royal York Station(Royal York rd from Lakeshore Blvd to Eglinton Ave is nicer area, mostly houses). Don't bother with Scarborough.

That should give you a broad template to start from.

That's nuts.

The Danforth has great neighbourhoods, around Pape is excellent.
Yonge/Eglington is old money, mostly filled with old people now.

High Park is a good mix, the Junction is more hip, new Distillery for younger crowds with lots of new housing and developments. Cabbagetown has a good mix of old money and hipsters, though is closer to the projects. Roncesvailles for Urkainian/Polish and some upscale housing near the park. Parkdale the biggest mix of hip, some money and some poverty. It all depends on what you want and how old you are.

Not double taxed, but if you plan to establish a domicile in Canada, you may become a Canadian tax resident. So, while you will deduct your U.S. taxes from Canadian tax liabilities, you will still end up paying the higher Canadian tax rate (with the marginal rate for any moderately decent income is close to 50%). Plus dividends and capital gains are taxed much heavily in Canada than in the US. Of course, you can claim you are just a tourist here, but if the CRA decides to investigate, a rental condo, a bank account, and a long presence may be enough evidence of "established ties." You are blessed to be American, stay there and come here to play and get the value for your $$$.

I'm not sure where this guy is in the US but coming to Toronto instead of perhaps moving cities/states would be a mistake. If the US is in decline mode then Canada is in collapse mode.

I’m from Michigan. I can drive to and back to Canada with ease. The best option would be to move down south or move to Brazil if Canada is such a bad option. I really like Canada and how cheap it is compared to the USA. You get more bang for your buck! The culture is better too! I can get a nice condo for $1400 usd down there!

Those or my two options or just get a better job that pays 100k. I’ll be able to afford whatever I want in the USA. The dating culture will be horrible and if I want to pay I can pay but it will be nothing like it is in Canada or Brazil.

Since I live in Michigan I can stay for 6 months and work there remotely for 6 months.

Then extend it to 1 year, if i really like it! If i extend it I'll file canadian taxes every year. Because of the US- Canada tax treaty I can avoid being double taxed, but I will pay the greater tax which would be Canada.

I just asked chatgpt and this sounds way too complicated for me. Sounds like a fucking headache and I would need a professional to help me. Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Guess i wont be living here lol

My best option would be to live here for 6 months using a fully furnished airbnb and dipped the fuck out so I dont over extend my stay or pay taxes.

Your best option is to stay in the US and move to a state with a better economy.
