Well, yes and no! According to the RCC, what he is doing is wrong and a mortal sin which will condemn him to hell - unless of course he is willing to confess his sins and ask for absolution before he dies and has sufficient plenary indulgences.
Gotta luv that 'escape clause' they have...:D

Well that at least confirms you are NOT a christian!
Or if you are, you're NOT a very good one for not 'turning the other cheek!'..
Independent thought, independent thought! It is because of independent thought that Christianity is not totalitarian. If not for the freedom of independent thought, then I would have been buried alive a long time ago. No priest has ever suggested that I be buried alive nor that I am a "non-believer" and worthy of death by beheading.

But after you die you will burn in hell for all time unless you submit to Gods law. You don't see the analogy?

You can be comdemned to hell for what you think. Thought crimes are totalitarianism by definition (yes I'm stealing that from Hitchens)
Nonsense. Christianity condemns no one to hell, as hell is merely a non-existent figment of their imagination. Christians can no more condemn me to hell than I can condemn them to spend eternity being encased in a pane of glass hurtling through space like the villians in Superman II.

True.

If you are a christian however, You have been convinced that hell is a real place you go depending on what you think or do. So it is a totalitarian rule over those who believe it.

But I have to agree with Rockslinger that it's unfair to single out Christianity in this regard. All religions have dumb arbitrary rules and most of them have places that punish you after you die if you disobey these rules.

But it is their choice to believe or not to believe. And it's a rather simple operation for a believer to become a non-believer - I know, I did it.

So Islam may be a better example of totalitarianism then, as leaving the faith (apostacy) is considered a capital offence under Sharia law.

Many religions have similar laws.
Bet RC Cannon Law also had a law like that.

That is currently preached and followed? No.

In Afghanistan a few years back (you know the country our soldiers are giving their lives to strengthen) they were going to execute a man who left the faith until western media got a hold of it. Instead they declared him insane and deported him. Does anyone doubt if some reporter hadn't noticed they'd have cut his head off?

Most religions get a fair bit of heat here (Bhudda gets a pass though) but most people seem to pick one to target. I do my best to criticize them all as they come up.

Since all it takes to be a Christian is for you to come to the understanding that you are sinner in need of redemption, why would you come to the conclusion that it is an "escape clause".

If you where a little more knowledgeable about Catholics you would know it ain't that simple. You actually have to be repentant before God before absolution can be given.

I find your comment based on ignorance and actually offensive.

Please don't be offended.
I suffered through 13 yrs of Catholic education when you throw in kindergarten, so I know a bit about The Church, thank you!

And YEP, an 'Act of Perfect Contrition' before you die is in fact an "escape clause" in the RC Church!

In fact Hitler and Mussolini both Catholics, could have used it to have all their sins forgiven them before they died, to go to Heaven.....The priests taught and debated this with us many years ago....;)
