So I got an ingrown hair on the worst possible place (yes, there) it got infected, and I've been dousing it with a prescription topical antibiotic. It's about 95% gone, but I'm worried about the next time I manscape that I'll get another one. Which products are the best to use to prevent and treat ingrown hairs? Thanks.

Don't shave so close. Leave it at a good trim. Also, applying a warm damp towel to the area before shaving to soften the hair and skin can help leave the edges of hair less sharp which lessens the risk of developing an ingrown hair. Finally, exfoliate! This will get rid of dead skin cells and help loosen pore blockages. Good luck!

Nothing like a nice pusy growth on your nuts to impress the ladies, eh?

Been there. I feel your pain.

Definitely exfoliate. Even just w a *clean* washcloth in the shower. A bit of polysporin should help. There is also a product called TendSkin - usually sold at spas where waxing is done.

Good luck! I hate those nasty bastards.

The stuff I got is like polysporin x10! Thanks, I will definitely check out tend skin and some other products.

I just went through that 3-3 1/2 weeks it took to clear up. I feel for you.

Thanks, hopefully mine heals faster than that, I might explode if I have to wait that long to have sex.

I used to get ingrowns on my face all the time. Best ways to avoid:

- Don't use an electric shaver. It chops the hair off below the skin surface.
- Use a sharp blade. A dull blade pulls the hair more, which can cause the second blade to chop it off below the skin surface
- Use a shaving cream warmer
- Use a moisturizing cream with an exfoliant like glycolic acid as an aftershave (e.g. Jack Black Line Smoother)

Some of these could also be used 'down there'. Personally, I just use an electric hair trimmer on my nads. No blades.

Azulene Oil at Walmart or Shoppers - blue liquid in spray bottle - $7.99 to $9.99.
Not sure if this is the same as shaving oil, but shaving oil helps achieve a very close shave and lubricates much better than gels or creams.
Also available at Shoppers. The fancy brands are $30-40. The bargain brand is $6 for a small bottle and works great.

I also vouch for tea tree oil as a treatment for blemishes.

Oh man. I get these from time to time. It's one of the main reasons I hate shaving. I only get them on my face/neck area. Drives me crazy!

I have tried so many types of razors and electric shavers and still get them.

I'll have to try this exfoliating. I bought some sensitive skin St.Ives scrub stuff. Hope it works. I also been using moisturizers but that only helps a little bit.

Nice tips!

Bump Eraser at Shopper's Drug Mart. Works fantastic. About 16 bucks a spray bottle. Meant for your neck but don't see why it wouldn't work elsewhere. It's in with the shaving creams.

I've always had issues with ingrown hairs when I've shaved down there and around my neck.

I tried different types of razors, exfoliating products, wet shaves in the shower, cold shaves (read that it helps make the hairs stand up).

Anyways, I finally tried Anthony Logistics For Men Ingrown Hair Treatment (http://reviews.sephora.com/8723/P170545/reviews.htm) and after five weeks I didn't have any ingrown hairs at all.

I used it on both my face (after shaving and before I went to bed) and down below (after shaving and for a few days after).

It's the only product that's worked for me and actually stopped my ingrown hair problem altogether.

I use my beard trimmer, set it to 1 or 2 so it leaves a bit of hair, but do it a week before you plan to see anyone so it's not prickly. No hair is wierd looking anyways

Do you wear a belt that has a buckle that kind of digs in to your groin when you sit because of weight gain? Or have your pants gotten tighter because of weight gain? All that pressure and rubbing can cause ingrown hairs in that area.
