The impeachment is tanking GOP numbers.
Its forcing senators to put on record whether they support the law or Trump.
If they don't impeach him they are stuck with him, the least popular president ever, if they impeach him they lose the base.
The impeachment is great for the dems.

No, actually, it shows whether senators support the law or hate Trump, and it shows that the hate of Trump makes Democrats to twist the law.

What law is being twisted?

What law is being twisted?
1) Trying to impeach the president after he left the office
2) Trying to present his encouragement for people's desire to protest as an encouragement for violent protests
3) Ignoring the precedents of similar behaviour (encouragement to protest) of officials during BLM violent protests

Basically, with very weak evidence the Democrats started a trial that would not be started for anyone else under similar circumstances. This is a selective application of the law and twisting the law based on political views.

1) He was impeached while in office, McConnell just delayed the trial until he was out.
2) If it was going to be just a protest he should have scheduled it away from the Capitol and not on the day the count the votes. His base sure thought they were acting under his orders when the stormed the place.
3) Who called for a coup at the BLM protests?

I'd like to see what the priming questions are around that, though.

I would say yes to that question if it was asked that way. I am very surprised the numbers are so low unless it was surrounded by other questions implying something more specific about the scenario and the violence involved.
Yeah, when I read a bit deeper that poll wasn't as scary as it sounds.

That's nonsense.
The first thing is perfectly fine.
The second is what is at issue and being discussed in the trial.
The third is something people can try as a defense if they like.
There is no twisting of anything going on here.

To be fair, “inciting an insurrection”, if Trump didn’t speak at the rally, would the Capitol riot have happened?
Difficult to say. He was setting it up for quite some time and his surrogates were also encouraging action.
But we do know he is the one who called for the rally, pushed it to happen before the votes were counted in the Senate, and the permit got changed to include the march on the Senate after he got involved.
So the evidence supports the idea that without him, it would not have ended in a violent attack on the Capitol.

Good money were paid to organize it as well, no?

They’ve already had two votes if he can be impeached after he leaves office and they voted yes both times...he started and continued on with “The Big Lie” and encouraged to “fight like hell” among other things when they got to the Capitol...the behaviour of the BLM protests have no bearing on this impeachment trial, “Whataboutism” is not a defence.

I think the evidence has been so strong and so overwhelming that a criminal trial should be considered.

The point is that he is not gone. The GOP senators are afraid to do their duty because they are fraid of him. If you have watched the hearings no thinking person could watch it and not vote to hold him accountable. The evidence so far is overwhelming.
The reason he is "not gone" is because the mainstream media and all the left wing nighttime talk shows won't shut the fuck up talking about him.

When bonespurs initially declared his candidacy in 2015, the media treated him like a joke (and he was and is a joke). But he was so outrageous and so fucking gonzo that it was like a train wreck. They just couldn't help but look. They all figured out that fuckhead was good for ratings and ratings =,money. So it became all Trump all the time.

But no-one expected him to win even a primary, let alone the office.

CNN made Donald Trump.

To guys like Maher and Colbert et al, bonespurs was a gift from God. Comedy gold.

And now that he's out, they all still talk about him nonstop. Without him, things are mundane, even boring.

CNN is the worst. They've got nothing to say without Trump. Trump could drop dead tonight and they'd still talk about him 24 seven.

I wish they'd all shut up already and let him dry up like a piece of dog shit in the sun until he just blows away in the wind.

Trump’s behaviour brought the attention on himself...CNN was in the political business long before Trump, they will survive just fine without him.

The REAL jury is John Q Public, JC. And the REAL trial is 2022 and 2024.

And I'm thinking maybe it's a "foregone conclusion" too.
I don't disagree. With the energy prices rising along with the unemployment and the coming immigration boondoggle, good luck!

Unemployment and small business will have a better future with a better COVID response under the new administration.

So, basically, it is not about the justice but about political benefits.
Well, I don't think the GOP will allow justice to be done. And the GOP is therefore going to suffer the political fallout.

If the GOP still believed in truth, justice, democracy and the Constitution, it might not have to turn out like that. But....
