2) She knows that for 1) to continue being an uptight elitist asshole probably isn't going to be a good strategy.

But then again...I am speculating. Clearly you know her well....
As long she's good with "whoring" herself out to the lowest common denominator, more power to her. She has the talent to be so much more than what she's pushing.

Wow 5 pages of posts and not one mention of Lil Wayne......this is a treat. Rappers (and I use that term loosely) like him have ruined hip hop. There are very few good hip hop artists today - Lupe Fiasco, Common, Talib Kweli, The Clipse come to mind. Jay Z and Nas are past their prime, its tough to listen to their current cd's because it pales in comparison to what they did in the past. There are some upcoming releases that will tell us if hip hop is really dead - Dr Dre's Detox, Raekwon's Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2, Rakim's Seventh Seal and Nas' new album.

Dirty south has all but destroyed hip hop and r&b.

...she thinks it is her decision as to how to use her talent, and doesn't consider her fans and audience to be members of the "lowest common denominator".

Maybe she has the self confidence to know that the world is full of judgment and haters, and knew that had she listen to everyone telling her what they think she she do based on their well informed and experienced assessment, she'd be where they are.

Maybe.

...but based on what I know and have heard, I would totally agree.

At times it seems like the only person making meaningful, insight, challenging hip hop that makes you pause and think is Eminem...which isn't so much a slam against 'Slim Shady' as it is a testament to how fall the genre has fallen...

Did so - see link - is this accurate? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Roots

Remember, I said "typically"...and I still stand by that. Fifty Cent, Little Bow Wow, etc, can hardly be called musicians.

The jury is still out of whether "yo yo bi-atch" is considered poetry.
Totally agree with you. And that's part of the problem. Real hip hop doesn't depend on the same old bitches and guns. Real hip hop is about lyrical talent. But most of the people here like to speculate to what hip hop is, and only hear what a portion of it. It's like me drawing a conclusion of what "real rock" is just by listening to Nickelback.

For Example, The Roots....Star

When that adrenaline get in their system
It get 'em out on a quest for stardom, could be a motherfuckin problem
in Philly, Cincinatti, Los Angeles or Harlem
Kids call theyself killers let they hammers do the talkin
Don't even know the meaning of life, ain't seen a thing
and you dream of flooding the scenery with, yellow and greenery
But for now, you stickin her with the heavy machinery
Wonder how, you lift it up, be only 17
And like everybody he wanna shine, young brothers on the grind
Holdin somethin in they spine, "Bowling for Columbine"
Stressin to me how it's all about a dollar sign
Dig the way you out of line, out of sight and out of mind
Up against the clock and damn near out of time
"The Tipping Point" has arrived, and that's the bottom line
To all my peoples that's stars, it's our time to shine

Do "producers" spend hours upon hours practicing their instrument, learning scales, modality, fingering, playing in tune, extending their range, perfecting their tone, learning to sight read written music....

All of which must be done daily to improve, or, at the very least, stay at a certain level of excellence.

Anyone can twist a knob till something sounds pleasing to their ear. I will concede that a competent "producer" is somewhat akin to an orchestra conductor, but without the talent on the other side of the glass...not much will happen, no matter who much knob twiddling you do.
let me ask you, have you ever tried producing a track or know any producers. i'm not talking about someone mastering a track until it sounds right. im talking about the people that come up with the track out of no where. and yes they do spend hours and years perfecting their art. I'm not talking about solely hip hop producers im talking about producers in general. and no they may not practice playing instruments, but they do spend hours a day perfecting a track, and it takes just as long to write a track eletronically as it does to compose a song. If it's so easy to twist a knob and make millions doing it then why aren't you doing it? and no there isnt always talent on the other side of the glass, in most hip hop yes, but not with every genre of music thats made with computers. and those artists have gotten pretty far without a vocalist.

Actually...yes. But I've been out of the industry for years now. My life went in a different direction. But I can speak with some knowledge and authority on this subject.

lol

OK CL.. respectfully.. you dont know what you are talking about.

In order to electronically produce music...GOOD music...just like with doing it with instruments you have to have a keen ear for music...you have to KNOW music. These "producers" you talk about sitting around turning knobs, eat sleep and breathe music and in most cases can actually play one, two or more instruments WELL; but because you dont see them doing it you assume that they arent "musicians"

Just because they are applying their talent differently, doesnt make their music any less

Only racist here is you, idiot. Rappers are terrorists. They intimidate and use epithets designed to be used as reverse discrimination. They push against safety. They encourage violence. They are all terrorists. Audio has no color.

Looking up words on Google or getting an on-line degree?

YOU are an idiot.

Remember, we're talking about "rap producers" here. Maybe I should have made myself more clear. But enlighten me. Name 10 rap producers that play an instrument and are competent at it. Name 2 who trained at a recognized school of music like Berkley or Juillard.

LOL... I dont have time to look up all rappers who are skilled musicians but you can start with "The Roots", Flava Flav is quite good on piano, Missy Elliot is a decent Vocalist...

How many musicians in Rock, Country, jazz or what have you have trained at Juillard? Is it even necessary to go to a school like that to be good??? Just because you didnt go to a prestigious school that makes you less of a musician?

You don't know shit. Nor would an average African American person know what a Golliwogg is (you had to look it up in Google with your on-line degree), the word is used from one Caucasian to another. However, rappers call each other the N-word (i.e.: niggers, which you are too scared to write as a complete word) to each other in their music, which is specific to be blasted loud to intimidate Caucasians that are forced to listen to it as incidental background music, when minding their peace. That's my point. But of course, you are just too fucked to know what's going on. And idiot like you doesn't even know the slang of "Golliwogg" that IS racist.

Asians first with me pal. Then the African MPAs are always chosen for massages. Obvious, you need a "white" girl to handle your sorry ass. And your girlfriend Missy Eliot is one of the largest racists in America. Her music should be banned and her ass kicked in so very hard. She's a terrorist. Oh yeah, give her a Grammy....given by the mob.

ROTFLMAO!

Yeah so you just called him a "golliwog" as a term of endearment right?? Yes you ARE a coward...dont try to pull your racist shit on me

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golliwog
http://www.answers.com/golliwog&r=67 (read the first def jack ass)
http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/golliwog/

I've ALWAYS known what a Golliwog is but no you just assume the dumb "apes" dont know anything right? Yeah, the word is used from one pussy ass Caucasian to another when making derogatory comment about black people because they are too chicken shit to say it to their face. But you have the internet to hide behind so you use a word that isnt commonly used to make your own coward insecure ass feel better.

Do rappers use the word NIGGER? Yes and I think they are wrong for doing so (but that doesnt discredit the genre because it never intended to be about that at all; thats a problem with the individual). But a brainless ass like you figures that if others do wrong so should you...Monkey see Monkey do right? I wonder who the dumb "ape" is here

You're clearly a racist moron who cant even make a proper point.

I'll not waste anymore time with you...you are a waste of flesh
