Once again another person who says 'you have no clue' but doesn't explain what one should look for or seek out to try and understand rap or hip-hop or what ever you want to call it.
How about taking the time and explaining to me and the good folks here on TERB what to look for to appreciate and try to gain knowledge of your type of music? Or are you just here to say that anyone who expresses an negative opinion of rap and hip-hop are trolls and 'have no clue' ??
Based on what I've read here, I've started to form my own opinion of people who appreciate rap and hip hop, and believe me it isn't a good one! Which is too bad because I would like to think that there are some decent rappers and hip-hoppers on this forum.
Have a nice day

I think you need to actually read the responses that were given to you, and to truly open your mind, instead of just saying it's open. Please read the quote below:
The same could be said for Rock, Jazz, Classical, Country; if you dont care about about it enough to pay attention to it, its all going to "sound the same"..and if you know you arent paying attention to it or interested in it you should know better than to make a silly statement
Now art can be interpreted as a work that evokes certain passions or emotions in its spectator. If you agree with this definition, then you can start seeing how rap can be an artform just as much as any other music genre. I hate Jackson Pollock, think he drinks various paints then vomits them on a canvas, yet his work sells for millions. Same can be said about rap or any genre.
I like Eminem's stuff, for example. I even own his second CD. I listen to his words, how they rythmicly fall into the music, his allegories, his similes, his hyperboles, you can start to appreciate what people see in his music: It invokes feelings in them.
Jazz for me is, for the most part, a chaotic jumble of chords, brass, and drums, yet when I listen to it closely, I can hear the improvisational interplay that is happening between the jazz band members. That's when I start to appreciate it. Thelonius Monk rocks!
