For a moment I thought we were having a good discussion about a Trump- DeSantis ticket.
JC/Kirk raise some good points. The ticket would have to have Trump at the top. Full stop. He would not tolerate 2nd fiddle.
However, I don't think Trump would tolerate a #2 who would soak up a big chunk of press. DeSantis is no way a Pence who will sit quietly and fawn over Trump. This will piss off Trump. Remember when Bannon made the cover of a national magazine and Trump started after him? DeSantis does have his own support (but desperately wants trump's supporters) and he has signaled already he is not necessarily bending his knee before Trump.
I believe Trump will lose if he runs again. Republicans are moving away from him.
I think DeSantis will beat Biden. I think Biden knows he can't run again, but he cannot say so because the moment he does he becomes a lame duck. So he'll wait and like LBJ he'll toss in his decision not to run in fall of 2023. I think DeSantis will beat most of the usual Democrats suspects. Certainly beat Harris easily. The Dems have boxed themselves in, because if they skip over Harris a chunk of their supporters will do what they always do and sit in a corner and pout and whinge and not vote.
The Dem's only hope is to push a narrative to Trump that DeSantis is smarter, stronger, more handsome than Trump and then trump will turn his guns on DeSantis, hence doing their dirty work for them. They also need some more aggressive governor like Newsome but better still is a more aggressive and more centrist governor like Pritzker or Mitch Landrieu. But that too is not a guarantee. They'll go with some lame senator and lose.
DeSantis has stayed pretty deep inside the bubble. Let's see how he does with more mainstream scrutiny (BTW, same applies to the Dem candidates, they need more national scrutiny). It will be interesting.
