How long do you think bars, restaurants, schools, events etc. will be forced to close?

With the closures, I wonder how many will go out of business. This shit is getting serious!

Seeing as nobody actually knows, how does our opinion matter?

Who said anything about how our opinion matters? It's simply a poll where you get to guess how long you think it will be before they green light everything.

I didn't think it needed an explanation. Obviously I was wrong.

I think that Trudeau, Trump and other world leaders look to TERB for wisdom in setting policy. Especially the Politics section.

I guess I just don't understand what, if any purpose it serves. Is there any benefit?

Noone knows the future winning lottery numbers, but still lots of people trying to guess them :)
Correct, but even if slim, there is a potential benefit if you guess right.

There is no benefit to anyone with this poll. The results are not informative because no one has relevant information. Knowing how many people think whichever way does not change anything or enter into any decision making. Hell, it's anonymous so no one can even claim bragging rights down the road.

I'm not saying people aren't free to vote, I just don't understand what function it serves.

The benefit of conversation maybe?
I can go along with that, not that there's not already tons of convos on the go. Somebody could post a guess and give reasons which could generate an interesting debate.

But I am talking about the poll itself and more specifically whatever numbers it generates.

Most retail store fronts other than grocery and pharmacy will likely have no choice but to close down for a good 6-8 weeks based on what we've already seen in the Chinese timeline. For white collar people told to work from home, it'll likely be closer to 5-6 weeks.

Overall, I'd say it will be closer to 12 weeks before things really begin to return to normal for most citizens of Canada and the US. Travel and border restrictions will continue to be a thorn for at least 6mths to a year though because the virus has not really taken hold yet in South or Central America, and Africa is just starting, but promises to be one of the most massive tragedies in human history.

Live of most people do not have any purpose. It does not mean people must kill themselves. Te purpose of this survey is entertainment during the process of voting, looking at the submitted votes, and reading the comments

Shouldn't last longer than 6 months because by that time we'll all have it. It'll have killed off those that could not withstand it, and the rest of us will have to go on living, and return to our jobs.

Yes, well, if i was Trump, that's surely what i'd be doing, with hourly check ins to TERB 24/7, as well as MERB & PERB. Spot on!

Are you normally this involved in threads that serve no purpose? You need to take a chill pill. Oh wait, you have almost 30K posts. Never mind...

The interesting part is that this is only the FIRST season for this virus. Unless a vaccination is developed, confirmed as viable, and distributed quickly on a global scale, or some material new public health measures and practices are implemented world wide, we could be right back into the same situations or very similar in the fall/winter of 2020-2021.

I've been known to overanalyse stuff. It doesn't necessarily mean that my premise is incorrect.

The bigger question is how many business' will outright fail?

Small business' like restaurants already live a precarious existence.

Airlines like Westjet are seeing this as an existential crisis. Never mind that hundreds of millions of dollars of their (financed) aircraft are now not only not making money, but the lease/finance payments still have to be paid, ramp and hangar rental, insurance, etc etc but how fast will consumers go on vacation to Europe this summer? How many business' will have adapted to changed practices that now reduce business travel?

What will the world look like when the world opens again?

I think it will take a 3-month lockdown to contain (or lessen) the viral outbreak. Keep an eye on Italy and France. They have now locked down and that should give us an idea how long Toronto will have to go through it.

I think we'll be fine. Everyone needs to chill out a bit

Agreed. The damage is already done. Now it is just about trying to pace it out to not overload the hospitals too much.
