I'll give you two examples of people who deal with life in a responsible manner. No woe is me story.

1) Last year I was on my bike and this other guy was also on his bike. We struck up a conversation. Turns out he is on some disability pension that pays him a bit north of $1,100 a month. $400 goes to pay for his room. That leaves over $700 for other stuff. Shortly after our conversation I noticed he got a part-time job as a crossing guard.

2) My electrician had a rough life growing up. He knew he would never get an electrical engineering degree from UofT. Instead he worked nights and studied/apprenticed to be an electrician during the day and now makes a good living as an electrical. He does a lot of work on movie sets.

Unlike the wokies/virtue signalers/progressives they don't blame governments and/or rich people, they simply deal with life the best they can. No woe is me.

For every 1 person that breaks the mold, there are a thousand that don’t/can’t for who knows how many reasons. Your electrician friend. Safe to bet no mental or physical handicap acting like an anchor.

I could tell you true, actual stories about people that made millions on Bay st. If it’s that easy why haven’t you and everyone else?? Numbers don’t lie Dart.

Look, I have had enough with the drug addicts and all that entails and those loathesome homeless who are fucking pigs and make a mess of anywhere they inhabit. I see it every day I am in Toronto. Along with the lazy fuckwits in the Works Department (?) and their managers and councillors absolute dereliction of their most basic duties resulting in Toronto becoming more and more filthy and littered. No wonder the homeless don't give a shit about throwing their shit in a garbage can. The fucking City has decided that NOT having garbage cans to throw trash in is a solution to waste disposal! As I said, fuckwits.

While I have no first hand experience with drug or alcohol addiction, I know addiction is a real thing. It affects even rich, successful, educated people from good families who have all the resources to help break the addiction.

This homeless and drug problem really troubles me. Not just that I think it is a blight on society and our city and neighbourhoods. I also have empathy for the human suffering of the homeless and addicted, those with mental health issues etc. And their families. So I have given a lot of thought to possible solutions or mitigation over many years. Despite being otherwise succesful idea man, this is one problem that I really have been unable to come up with even a remotely viable and sustainable solution for.

Ignoring it, deliberately is the only solution that I have been able to come up with to deal with my being bothered by it. Ignoring it is different than denying it.

And we walk over the sleeping homeless on the street... He is the one making us uncomfortable...

So your only solution is that everyone quit their jobs and find a better paying job?
How does that work for everyone needing the food bank?

Personally I think the pitchforks will come out eventually if people can't afford food and lodging doing full time work.

of course not that wouldnt be very smart forward thinking. never quit a job before you find a new one.

ask for a raise and come up with factually based reasons why your performance increases the companies productivity. modified work hours in your favor. longer hours of work and less days of work. there a few options out there if one is inventive and your company actually values you versus you are just filling a hole.

find a new job closer to home. cuts down on personal expenses for work travel.

pick up a second gig working part time. there are many ways to make extra money. deliver news papers or flyers, depending on a persons skills they could also offer their services through kijiji and facebook. rent out an empty room to someone.

managing and reducing expenses and bringing in more income would address the food issue.

there are so many solutions that I as a minimalist use to reduce my expenses, but people dont want to have to make hard decisions which would inconvenience their life. example - those experiencing high interest rates paying for a variable mortgage. quick cash flow renting out an empty room. sorry kids no more disney plus. sorry xmas will be lean this year. so many options yet most people want a less inconvenient way.

its a bitter pill for people to swallow but this is the problem with first world countries. go to actually poor countries and you will see people living on next to nothing and surviving. its disgust me seeing the plenty we have in our country, the entitlement people have for their government will bail them out and the sheer gluttonous behavior of western people.

So, examine some causes of some of the more common mental health afflictions.

Some are just dealt shitty cards at birth. Yay but for the grace of god, there go I…

Some are born in the wrong neighborhoods. Yay but….

Some, are the result of things that happen during life. The most obvious being depression. Others like PTSD.

The govt cannot afford care facilities. Truish. All governments respond to what the public wants. If the public wants 8 lane highways out to Cobiurg and St Catherine’s. If the public wants A B or C…Consider Fords response to LTCs. The public started howling….after successive governments and the public not giving 2 shits about Seniors, LTCs, PSWs for 30 years..

Also know, that since Ontario closed a lot of facilities. Guess where they end up. The streets….

I guess you could call my electrician a friend. It was kind of weird how we met (no it wasn't at an MP). He came over and wired my entire garage, spent parts of 3 days doing it. He also told me his company did work at Darlington (as well do on location movie shoots). Anyway, he is no superhuman, just an ordinary bloke.

Then there is this other guy on a disability person. He rents a room because he can't afford a house in Rosedale but he manages fine.

Personal responsibility and accountability. Don't blame government and don't blame rich people.

Sorry, but I can't really understand the intention of your message in the context of mine.

I agree that many billionaires make things worse out of greed when they can do so much by just dialling back their avarice a few points. The Weston family's price fixing and price gouging comes to mind. So, despite my appreciation of their President's Choice products and other interesting and quality products, I recently stopped shopping at any Weston related supermarkets , Shoppers Drug Mart etc

Maybe I didn't communicate properly? It's not that I don'y give a shit. Quite the opposite. My oown personal strategy to deal with this has to be for me to ignore it becauyse I don't have a solution. This is my not so humble take on the homeless situation. Usually it is brought on by drug or alcohol addiction and/or mental health problems often originating from unfortunate life events. In any case I am tired of listening to the excuses being made for them. In any case I believe that 90% of these totally failed human beings are beyond help whether they are provided free housing [ which they will turn into a ghetto in short order ] , forcing them into shelters, giving them a basic income with no strings, or forcing them into re-hab or giving them free drugs. If they are allowed to continue as is they will destroy the entire fabric of vibrant downtown life and commerce. That means getting rid of every encampment in populated areas and city parks etc. They need to be moved en mass to thinly populated areas like industrial areas where they cannot intimidate women and children etc. and destroy businesses . Better still move them all to Northern Ontario. The solutions proposed by WOKE society and politicians is obviously only making the situation worse by the year.

If I want to feel sorry for someone I really feel sorry for the working poor who are going to work every day and doing their best to get ahead in this often UNFAIR world and losing ground in spite of their efforts.

There is a reason that wealthy philanthropists seldom give millions to help solve homeless and drug addiction problems. They are smart enough to realize that their money would be largely wasted and prefer to leave their millions to hospitals and universities and medical research where something useful can be accomplished.

where do low income earners spend their money. Typically all of it. At a BMW service garage or Joe blows little mechanic. Do they buy meals at McDonald’s, little greasy spoons or “The Keg”..so they get their hair cut, nails painted at fancy smancy spas, or some low end privately owned…Do they buy groceries at Loungos, Sobeys…..or Walmart/no frills.

In other words. Seed capital, that they spend within their communities and demographic helping each other up.
