Let me get it straight. Someone (e.g., a bank robber) got hostages and killed some of them (just for the fun of it). The bank is surrounded by the police. That terroris/bank robber say "Let me go and keep the money and I will let the hostages go". The police said "No way, you let the hostages go, surrender, and we will take the death penalty off the table for you/" And you think it is the police's fault and that hostages are not released yet? The Trump's proposal (to which Israel agreed) is very simple: free hostages and disarm, and we will give amnesty to regular terrorists (pretty generous proposal, don't you think?). What did Hamas say? We will free the hostages but will not disarm. What they are not saying (but definitely imply): in a year or two we will get full control over Palestine again and repeat terrorist attacks on Israel.

Trump is a businessman, so, he used to believe in contracts because contracts are enforceable. But this is politics; no contracts are enforceable. He was a fool to believe Putin, he is a fool to believe Hamas, but he is learning.

If you want to get it straight, this is a better metaphor.

Some asshole invades your home, kills your kids and takes your wife prisoner. Then forces you to live in the basement while they block most water and food from coming in. So you get mad and break out and try to take their wife prisoner so you can exchange her for your wife. So then they kill your dog, your neighbhours and block all food, water, power and light from getting in. Then they start lobbing grenades downstairs at you and the prisoner wife and demand you give her back or they will kill you all.

Before Oct 7 Israel there was a 17 year blockade of Gaza. Most people who grew up in Gaza have never been allowed to leave. Israel has had thousands of Palestinians hostages kept through 'administrative detention' for years. In 2014 the people of Gaza protested every Friday for a year while Israel used snipers on them every Friday. Kneecapping and crippling over ten thousands and killing over 200.

I can't wait to live in a new era where Netanyahu is nowhere near Israeli politics ever again. If he was on fire I doubt I'd spit on him. I'm glad Trump has boxed him and his fellow hard right schmucks in....this conflict desperately needs to end.

Unfortunately Trump has boxed in Netanyahu, assuming all the hostages are returned to Israel, as Israel must cease fire to fulfil that primary condition for the return of the hostages.

Once that happens there will be no further sympathy from the rest of the world for Israel to keep up their assault on Gaza, even if Hamas does not comply with all the other conditions. Which is obvious they won't.

The chances of Hamas giving up control of Gaza, not to mention disarming, are about the same as Trump resigning from his Presidency next week...

The blockade?

Netanyahu had been backing Hamas to keep Palestinians separated but after Hamas won a democratic election Netanyahu got pissed. So with the help of the US he tried to start a coup, which did separate Palestinians. Then he felt justified in both funding Hamas and ordering an illegal, war crime, blockade.

That was the first time Netanyahu tried to starve Gaza, where he had a public policy of 'counting calories' of food he'd let in.
After the world found out he stopped it publicly, but still blocked food, medicine and things needed for daily life.
Gaza is an open air prison.

Now Gaza has virtually just 14 hospitals in partial operation, thanks to Israel's indiscriminate bombing of them!!
Do not see Israel offering to move those that require life changing surgeries into their hospitals!!

Israel hasn't honoured a treaty yet.
They are still bombing Lebanon and Syria.

Israel has killed 70 so far after being ordered by trump to stop.
