Well, here in Canada you have to have a valid license to acquire a firearm and to get that license you need to take, and pass, a firearm safety course. I can't vouch for why your country sees the need to do things differently from us, but they apparently do.

Now, as to this western Utopia stuff? What the hell are you smoking?
We do things differently because we realize that a right cannot be restricted in this way. As soon as they begin "licensing" firearms owners, the "Requirements" for such a license will be so restrictive as to make guns effectively, banned....

....You do such a fine job of making western Canada sound like a dream...no guns....the citizens walking hand in hand down streets that are clean and well maintained......sounds like a dream :D

Well hang on here a second, you just posted that you'd consider a regime which included proper handling instructions and the like. Are you naturally inconsistent or is a product of the time of day?

And when did I ever say life here was a dream? The streets are clean and maintained but life here is pretty much like everywhere else. Except that too many people here like guns.

This is almost a word-for-word parroting of the NRA party line. And it's absolute nonsense.

Firstly, rights are restricted all the time. They're called "laws." The opposite is anarchy.

Secondly, I am unaware of any *current* country that has a firearm licensing requirement that such requirements are as restrictive as you make them out to be. In Canada, we've had firearms laws for decades, and there is no confiscation program. Same as England, Japan, etc. etc.

Lastly, we license our cars, we license our dogs, we license our businesses, we even license marriages (probably because marriages cause the most damage... but who's bitter?)! Why should firearms be any different, considering the tremendous damage that they can inflict, even when unintended?

(As an aside, why oh why do people mistrust government so much, who are, after all, elected by the people, but are so quick to hand over their freewill carte blanche to an organization like the NRA which has no accountability to anyone save their own board of directors?)

I'll keep that in mind but I'm a New Yorker at heart. Perhaps they have some militia camps I can attend though.
Do a google check on that. I'm sure you'll find some survivalists or something there to help you along.

Why do we mistrust government?...In America, it's part of our nature to mistrust government. We even went so far as to fight 2 wars over our mistrust of the government. The only reason for all this licensing is for the government to raise money. At least it is here. I can't wait to see what kind of "fee" would be required to register a gun.

As far as why would anyone mistrust the government, you ARE fucking kidding, right?
And you'd rather support an organization lead by an armed Alzheimer-riddled bigotted right winger?

I'm sure I could. I'm just too much of a wuss for that stuff. I can't kill and gut animals and I like girls too much. I'm very soft I admit it.
You can have girls in these places. They just tend to be your sisters or cousins, that's all.

You may find that guns are not for you. You may have a fear of them, rather then respet. And this is your position and I support that. But if people do respect them and know them as tools you too should respect that.

In a world where tolerance is demanded. One must be tolerant of those who believe a gun is their right to own.

I'm tolerant of those who believe it is their right to own guns. I'm pretty tolerant of most people who do not share my beliefs. I don't understand where you get the idea I'm not.

And I believe prior to that you had called hunters morons. Do you therefore need to take some of your own medicine. Besides, lots of gun owners are morons. Lots of non gun owners are also morons. So what's your point?

All talk - no brains

This is the 168th post. My point is proven. No one is talking about how to address the identified problems with realist compromises. My view - the gun side should start shoot at the anti arms abd the anti arms should figure out a way to castrate all Rambos wana bees.

come on now. What solutions have been really presented and discussed that have any chance of addressing the problems. Plenty of barbs and arrows are flying for over a hundred posts but the scope of the problem in no better diefined and no head way has been made on acceptable compromise.

If the point of the board is to shit on other peoples views, well I guess i have had enough of that. If the point is to express your views, learn from others, and see if there are solutions to the concerns that all of us share, I see little of that. Over the course of 170 posts now, I repeat that if people can not find common ground that this situation will only get worse. The prophecies on both sides are self full filling.

Should this be posted in every thread? Almost makes me cry.

Ok, firstly, this is a site which started because men want to pay women for sex and they want a resource to get some background info on who to select for that. If you're looking for in depth policy analysis from this board you might wanna rethink a little and go elsewhere.

Secondly, gun control is an issue that societies have wrestled with for decades if not centuries. What makes you think that 170 posts on a board like this will get us closer to solving anything?

Thirdly, get over this "common ground" stuff. Jesse Jackson lost his bid to run for President. You appear to be old enough to realize that on some issues, like gun control, abotion, gay marriage, there is little if any common ground

Fourthly, no one is forcing you to read this or any other thread on here. If you don't like what's happening here start another thread or forum in which no name calling is allowed or just simply ignore the posts which are not in to your liking.

Ok. So why do you contribute? Should I bother to read what you say if there is no dialogue intended?
