USA, since wwII have had permission to put whatever bases and installations into Greenland. The most important ones being the Thule airbase and the QEW radar installations. BTW, there were Thermonuclear bombs at Thule air base.
Denmark is fine with that, as a good ally. And I am sure the Greenlanders are happy also, because it provides employment for them.
That is why USA do not gain any security advantage from taking Greenland. So why piss off one or more of the loyal, actually servile, NATO partners. Denmark is vital to NATO because it monitors the entrance to the Baltic Sea, and operate listening posts in the Baltic. Maybe with all the satellites that has become less important.
While the Danes are not gaining any benefits from Greenland, half off the GDP of Greenland is subsidies from Denmark, they do not like being treated roughly, when they have supported USA loyally in all it's wars and adventures.
if you say Trump has the greenlight for nukes at Thule air base., I will believe you
He wants something that Greenland has
let try another guess
This article discusses the mining, minerals, and fuel resources of Greenland.

Greenland has many rich mineral and natural resources including hydrocarbons, lead, iron ore, zinc, rare earth metals, gold, precious gemstones including diamonds, platinum, and uranium. Geological surveys and studies indicate the possibility of oil and gas fields in the northern and north-eastern parts of the country.
Despite/ in addition to his squeezing of Canada and Mexico, China is his real target
Rare Earth Metals are a problem as China has close to a monopoly on current rare earth productions.
Trump likely does not want to be dependant on China for anything
Trump doubles the US reserves by purchasing Greenland.
Rare earth metals like neodymium, cerium, lanthanum, dysprosium, and praseodymium are commonly used in the production of artificial intelligence chips, primarily due to their magnetic properties which are crucial for components like permanent magnets found in high-performance computing hardware; this high demand for rare earth metals is driven by the growing AI industry.
Canada has some Rare Earth Metals , so if that is what he is after, we have a leverage card to play.
Denmark also has a leverage card to play as there are no European nations on that list.
Don't sell it cheap. assuming the population on Greenland is willing
Does this logic hang together?
