Trump had a conversation with the Prime minister of Denmark, where he demanded Denmark give Greenland to USA. It is reported that the conversation went very badly and that Denmark is in crisis mode.

The whole idea borders on insanity, because USA has an agreement with Denmark, which allows USA to have bases and military on Greenland, and I am sure will allow USA to exploit mineral resources there.

Secondly, Greenland/Denmark is a founding member of NATO, and more important than it's size warrant, because it is a guardian of the entrance to the Baltic Sea, and is operating listening posts there.
Denmark has been the most servile supporter of USA ever.

The problem is now his propagandist idiots are jumping on board. So much for the antiwar Prez. He wants to wage war on his closest allies.

Well they tried to wage war on enemies and keep losing so they decide to beat up on the poodles. Like the tough guy that loses a fight at the bar and beats the wife and kids. As for the Danes they are idiots so I have no sympathy. Ans what is even more shocking is how pathetic the EU is .. .Ursula vo der idiot and been pretty quiet about it,

You are polite in your description. Trump completely blew a fuse on that call. Threatening Denmark of war.

There is precedence. In 1917, during WWI when Denmark was isolated, USA gave Denmark an offer, it could not refuse, to buy the 3 Caribbean islands that became the US Virgin Islands, for $25 million.

I imagine that is remembered by the Danes.

he does not care if other countries say "Fuck off Trump" publicly,, especially if he has leverage on them
Meh. If enough countries push back with tariffs it will punish the American voter.
Trump wants to leave NATO, go a head. Leave the WHO, nobody cares.

he just needs to convinced Greenland to become independent
then
he can set, a small purse of 10 or 15 billion dollars (pocket money for the USA) to be divided between the 53,000 people that lives there if the accept to become a US state (or territory)
then
drill baby drill

Why do you think there are only a few mines in Greenland, when there are lots of minerals. Do you think Denmark has prevented mining?

The conditions for mining is very poor, with access to the mine site only 4 months a year, and brutal conditions.

Trump can not get re-elected , 22nd amendment. Two terms is the max
He should care what the US voters think, but he does not have to

NATO without he US military is toothless, you know that

Leave the WHO? After their recent COVID performance? Adios

yes,, but biggest barrier is regulatory. US has less
if the minerals are strategic, then it is worth

in any case, the US wants Greenland for security an power projection, mining is just a cherry on the top

it seems a ballistic missile launched from China will go directly above Greenland
What would Greenland bring to US security & power projection?

That is a silly argument.

USA constructed the Thule air base and the QEW installations in 1951, and have had free reign of military installations and placements ever since.

Some are convinced they won't need to go to war.
Just threaten it until Greenland sells.
I think (or maybe it is only a hope) that by threatening the Danes this way, their hackles may go up, and they will show some fortitude.

If Trump had been more diplomatic, he could have waited a bit and encouraged Greenland independence and things could have worked out for him. Playing the ugly American may not have been smart.

Anyway, I am only hoping.

but they will need a lot more bases, a more serious investment and building in a foreign country has risks of eviction

The US is gearing up for a potential war with China, they are rebuilding multiple WW2 bases like Guam, Tinian.
The point is, they don't need to add a base or 2 in Greenland, they need to militarize Greenland in a permanent basis, not by invitation, not subject to the whims of Inuit (Greenland) elders accepting the bases
