and putting newhart, 2 and 1/2 men and wkrp on there ahead of anything else really makes your poll not relevant at all.

Threes Company, especially the one where there was a big misunderstanding that caused Jack some embarrassment.

"As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly." - Arthur Carlson. Classic line.

Wasn't a huge fan of Newhart, but the final episode where he woke up in his old show was a stroke of comedic brilliance.

WKRP and Newhart I would say are both pretty highly thought of.
except no one talks about them or thinks about them. comparing seinfeld to newhart is like asking "what would you rather have a blowjob or punch in the face?"

Ooh, new poll:

Which would you rather give simon482:
a) blowjob
b) punch in the face

Vote now...

Nah, never mind. I wouldn't want the TERB server to crash with the flood of responses... :D

I cannot in good conscience vote without the Grand Daddy of all time being on the list...The Honeymooners.

I loved Seinfeld but my vote would go the the show with the original Cosmo Kramer, The Honeymooners.

There were about a hundred such episodes. Misunderstanding was the main theme throughout the entire series.

I own all the seasons of Three's Company, Cheers, and Married with children on DVD. I really hope they will still play when I'm 80 years old.

Dick Van Dyke should be considered.

I liked WKRP in it's day. I bought the 1st season DVD and only could get through half of it as it was painfully bad.

Another great oldie is The Phil Silvers Show. Bilko was a riot.

The Honeymooners, followed closely by All in the Family. Both broke ground for the other shows to follow. I never could get Seinfield. A show about nothing?

Some terrific options to choose from.
I went with All In The Family because I think it was the most cutting edge for its time. Two and a Half Men would never be able to get away with half of what it does had it not been for ground breaking efforts of earlier shows.
There is clearly a generational difference as you look through the list and some of the other shows that have been mentioned. It makes it tough to compare across the years as the rules and boundaries have changed. Even MASH went to places that were rarely visited before.
From a pure comedy point of view, I'd also consider The Beverly Hillbillies and Get Smart. Bear in mind, I was a kid then and the catered to my demographic, but I sure did laugh.
Seinfeld and Friends were both huge hits through the years, but again, targeting a very specific demographic.
Cheers was great and had one of the best spinoffs ever with Frasier. I'm sure some would pick Frasier over Cheers.
The show is currently at the top of my list is The Big Bang Theory. Again, it works in this day and age, but it does manage to please a very wide demographic.
