I picked Scottsdale because that is Matthews hometown, also it is where one of my friends bought a house for his retirement and I think that is where hockey hero Paul Henderson spent some time recuperating from his lung disease. Anyway, pick any American city you want.

It doesn't matter who said it. It's a ridiculously obvious statement and the fact that you repeated it is equally ridiculous.

Regardless, the fact that the air in a desert climate, such as Scottsdale, is very, very dry is common knowledge to an extreme degree. A fact as obvious as that does not bear repeating, let alone making a post exclusive to that tidbit.
And on top of that, regardless of what anyone else may have posted, talking about Paul Henderson has nothing to do with great American cities, the topic of the thread. Continuing that line of discussion drags the thread further and further off topic.

Well, let's look at a few things here. Yes, California has a large homeless population. There are several reasons. One is the weather. You don't see the same amount of homelessness in cold areas. Here's a shocking idea: people move to California for the weather, even the homeless. Now, there are multiple reasons people live in poverty, but I won't get into all of them here.
But, here the List of U.S. states and territories by poverty rate. You will notice that when it comes to states with the highest level of poverty per capita...the vast majority are red. Mississippi, Louisiana, West Virginia, Kentucky, Arkansas....all led by GOP or voted GOP.
Then, let's look at education: Again, you will notice that Arizona, Louisiana and Alaska are all at the bottom. Again, they are Red States.
Anyway you slice it, blue states are superior....with maybe the exception of gun ownership...
Now, I'm not saying California doesn't have problems. It sure as fuck does. The gap between poverty and extreme wealth is growing and obscene. They have gang problems (like most major US cities). They are fucked because of the severe drought they are going through. Affordable housing is for the most part non-existent. The point is, more people live in Cali than all of Canada. But, if they can't get the water issue resolved, then there is a good chance they will shed more people. But, then again, the water issue is going to hit a huge number of states in that area. Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Texas...they will all be fucked due to climate change.
I spent over a month in the Scottsdale area just after the 2008/2009 financial crisis. Houses had dropped about 40% in value, I should have scooped one up. I loved it there but wouldn't want to be there in the summer where its routinely over 40°C.
That is completely untrue. There are cities in the U.S. that are safer than many of our cities here in Canada.

One of my former work friend (now retired) bought a house in Scottsdale around 2008-9 as a retirement home for his wife and him.
Many Californians are leaving for red states like Arizona, Texas, Florida, etc.

His timing was impeccable. I could have bought a waterfront 2 bedroom condo that was going for over $700K pre meltdown for about $400K in 2010. Now they go for over $1.2M easy.
I've never been to Arizona but my former work friend (now retired) said the heat isn't too bad because of the dry air. (Apparently, hockey hero Paul Henderson spent some time in the dry air of Arizona when he was experiencing breathing problems.)
BTW: I have an open invitation from my friend to come visit him in Scottsdale.
Cost of living. It's the number one reason. It has not much to do to being a red or blue state to be honest. Actually if you look at how all red state are much poorer then blue state you start to wonder...
By the way didn't Arizona turned blue in 2020?
