Grammys: Why did they let that clown ruin Sting's song?

First, The Police was basically a white-reggae-pop hybrid, so it actually makes perfect sense that Sting would perform Roxanne, which was heavily reggae-influenced, with Sean Paul.

I'm not that crazy about Sean Paul's music, but a lot of people love it, and for you to discredit it and question its value as a form of music - well, that's not the same as saying you don't like it. When you say that it's "jungle music" and to whoever said that "rap is for kids"...well, you're showing your age. The charts are dominated right now with Rap and R&B...now, I'm a rocker at heart, but I like a lot of today's new music. To be so close-minded is to limit your enjoyment of what is out there, and it also brings you one step closer to becoming your parents.

Remember, if it's too loud, you're too old.

p.s. Pete Townshend got in trouble for child porn, not Roger Daltry.

Remey, you're two for two in this thread. Quit now before you type something even more inane.
I think Remy has to put down the bottle of Remy before he can stop posting vague and pointless comments about racism.

I'm sure he wasn't even thinking when he posted, he was just putting words together.

People like Remy are so funny with their ignorant judgements...

Reading some of the posts from our resident French-Canadians can be just as difficult as interpreting Sean Paul's lyrics.

Glass house stone throwing yadda yadda yadda....

It's not just about being racist - it's about being stupid.

This is a great post. If lumix had said he felt that Sean Paul had butchered "Roxanne" and left it at that, no one would have cared. But he had to add some ingorant, racist, remarks, and this thread has exploded. What is humorous to me, as I read this all objectively, is that lumix really has no clue as to what he did wrong here, and as such, has made himself look like a clown himself.

"Jungle music" LMAO!

"What's ska?" Too freaking funny!

Bringing up Vanilla Ice and Hammer, as if somehow they represent all rap artists. LOL! That just makes you sound very old and very out of touch, lumix.

I tend to agree with Ophelia Black about Sting. I loved the Police, but personally don't care for much of his solo stuff. A little too sensitive male and heart tugging for my taste.

Thank you all for a very entertaining and educational post.

Sorry Roger!

You know what's really silly? I looked this up to make sure I had the right guy before posting - I actually knew for sure it wasn't Daltrey, but couldn't remember anybody else's name to use for the Google search - saw the right guy was Pete Townsend, then noticed Google was giving me shit about misspelling Daltrey, which, suffering a mental flatulence attack I made sure I spelled correctly...in my post...arrrgh.

I agree with you 100%. And now we've replaced one silly terb member (Lumix) with another equally silly terb member (remymartin).

The best part of it all is that some poster's don't really have clue to what they have done wrong. It's like they roll in their own filth not realizing that it's filth.

Remy

I kind of get the impression you are neither of the groups you mentioned that you consider to be so darned sensitive.

Which makes me wonder - if that is the case - if you, your family, or your particular chunk of humanity happily accepted racism directed towards yourselves.

Not a big fan of Sean Paul and have been a Police/Sting listener for a long time..

So here goes...

Lumix, what's the problem? it's only a song fer crying out loud!! If you didn't like that particular version, suck it up and move on.. Sting didn't have a problem with Sean Paul doing it, why should you? it's not like you have a personal stake in it..

BTW. another perfect example of Ska music, "Don't Stand so Close to Me"

Seriously. Sting and the Police were heavily influenced by Ska music which is a product of Caribbean culture.
Big Papa Smurf is right on. Any true fan of the Police knows that a lot of their songs, including Roxanne, was influenced by Ska and Reggae. Listen to some classics like Roxanne and Message in a Bottle and how Sting sings the songs.

If we're all gonna engage in judgment and overjudgment, keep the following in mind: Lumix and RM aren't laying their ignorance on their sleeves on any old board, they're doing so on an *escort review board*...

Wow. Your grasp of the music industry is amazing..........

The Police were interesting; Sting, not particularily. I wonder who's agent and management approached who? I'll bet it was Sting's people who approached Sean Paul.......
....and YOUR grasp of music?........Sting not particularily interesting????........you are so funny......'Nothing like the sun' is one of the greatest albums of all time......the day Sean Paul comes within a few lightyears of what Sting has brought to music.....I'll be happy to admit he's good......in the meantime.......

LOL, he probably figrued Yoko already broke up the band so what da heck.

And rap isn't just for the kids. I like Sting but I also like Tupac, BIGGIE, 50Cent, Buju Banton, JayZ etc. and I ain't no spring chicken. Now Snow on the other hand... bahhh... he a joke. It all depends on what mood I'm in. If I don't like what I'm hearing, nobody says I'm obligated to listen to it. Just switch the channel and end of story.

Wow, who'd have thought this tread would have exploded as it has in such a short period of time.
